The Kobo Arc uses a standard "micro" USB cable - the same one used by most cell phones. So, which 3 things are wrong?

1. You're plugging in the cable upside down?
2. The plug on the cable in damaged?
3. The socket in the Kobo is damaged?

For 1, look very closely at the cable and the socket and make sure they line up (and that your USB cable didn't get swapped). Micro USB cables have a little bevel on one edge, so they only plug in one way, and often have to be held *perfectly* straight to insert.

For 2, try the cable in another device, if you have anything that has the same kind of connector. Maybe the cable is mangled and your Kobo is fine. If so, bear in mind cables are CHEAP - you should not be paying more than $2-3 for a replacement.

For 3, this is the ugly part. Look closely and see if you can observe any warping in the metal socket. Usually you'll see a dent or something out of place. You're going to have to bend it back in shape.
There are risks in doing this, as you might do more damage than you had to begin with. USB sockets have pins in them - it's also possible that some have bent or broken and you simply can't fix this.
If the Kobo is still under warranty, I'd recommend talking to them (or your credit card company, if you bought it with a credit card that extends your warranty for you, as most will) and see if it can be fixed professionally before you start the very unscientific process of jabbing a screwdriver into your Kobo to shape the metal socket. :)

That's a tough job unless you can send it back.

You can charge it with a USB cable and aPC, however it is slower but it might work.

Try that first.

Hi i managed fix my usb port , open the kobo and remove the usb ribbon, the usb port is glued at the rear , you will see a black blob od adhesive at back of port , this comes unstuck if it gets a knock , i gently lifted this slightly then slid some super glue underneath and then applied pressure on top of the usb port to ensure the port was contacting the ribbon again until the glue set, my kobo is back in action again , hope this helps someone
