Harddisk maybe necessary to set single drive by 2 jumper settings. if IDE cable is used and its standing alone.

I have p4m800-m7 also and i cant seem to get both sticks to work.....I still have only 1 gig with both sticks i have 2 DDR-2 1Gig sticks PC2-5300 533 mhz

Based on the information given here, the p4 d processor is supported by your motherboard. There should be no problem in making the switch.
