Question about Samsung HLN5065W 50" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

1 Answer

My HLN5065W works great though Directv, but when I play a DVD or VCR tape I get wavy lines in the picture...any idea what that could be? I replaced the analog board to no avail. Could it be the digital board?

This is a great way to know what problems you are having before you call in a tech! I can now probably fix this myself. Thanks for the quick & accurate responses!!

HI. If these lines appear throughout the entire movie or, program and, they span then entire screen, this will confirm A digital Board issue. one or more of the board components are showing signs of failure at this point. it is recommend to replace this failing board in this case.

**NOTE-- IF these lines are vertical, this will confirm Light engine issues but, if these lines are horizontal, this will be the Digital Board.

Although I'm sure this is an issue with the digital board, i would like to see a picture of this set in action if possible. you may email this photo to localwonder@aol.com if you wish. this will increase the accuracy of my solution greatly.

    Thanks:)

Hi. Thanks for the picture. That is defiantly a digital board issue but, just to make sure it isn't a simple lose or, worn cable, check the linking cable between the DMD module and, Digital board. It will look like an DVI cable. if the cord is connected and, in good condition, replace the digital board.

I have certain movies for my grandchildren. There

I assume the picture after viewing your "certain movie" you have a snowy type of picture with sound? This is because your "certain movie" will have a bad section or worn section of tape & is making the heads dirty. Is there a part of the "certain movie" that gives wavy lines or the picture breaks up? If a tape is constantly used it causes the oxide coating of the tape to flake & dirty your heads. You could try a head cleaning tape although these sometimes do not do a thorough clean.

No color and sporatic play on VCR mode, with zv420mw8

If this problem happened within a few seconds, you probably have dirty heads. If It happened slowly you could have an alignment problem. Both of these problems should be repair professionally.

Nothing has worked! Talked with a tech on the phone line and she said unit is bad. Everyone seems to have problems with this type of unit period so I am returning it and giving up. Even the responses from others have not proved effective. Lousy product!

Dirty heads or the recording was from a different brand VCR and the Panasonic cant get the right tracking. Try manual tracking just a little in either direction to you get the right one.

Check the cable connections and/or replace the cables to the AV2 input.

If replacing the cable doesn't provide a solution, try running your DVD through the input. Since it works fine now, you would be checking the input AV2 by putting your working DVD. If the DVD plays with no problems, the input is fine.

Also try the VCR using coax into the TV instead of RCA into AV2. This will give you some idea about the condition of the VCR.

I suspect either the VCR or the cables.

The VHS cleaning cassette possibly deposited fiber in the heads in the drum. You may need to open the cabin and examine the heads and the mechanism for foreign matterial.
