Any will work, however finding the codes can sometimes be tricky

There are online sites that list the codes, as well as booklets that list the codes for THAT universal remote.

You can play it safe and get a logitech harmony series and I can promise it will function just as well if not better

Get auniversal remote or a new original. If your handy you could take apart the bad one and look for bad solder contacts (or something spilled in it)

if you have the tv with 2 big wheels (not the on one with 4 wheels) and the built in dvd, just above the dvdtray there is a tv/dvdbutton. press that and you can switch from tv ,video 1 video 2 or dvd. my son lost his remote and it took me a while to figure out that the button was there but it works.as far as auniversal remote...i have no idea.

This set has a front panel MENU button which is good, since most universal remotes don't seem to work the TV menu.

Use the menu button to get to the closed-caption setup and make sure it is turned off. The black square is because the captioning is set for text mode. That part of the screen is being blacked out so the text (which isn't there) can be displayed.

you have to read the manual of your universal remote to see the four digit code. code is rely on the brand of your tv.
