Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

I have a kenmore HE2 electric dryer. the power comes on (panel lights up) but when i push the start button it clicks like it normally does but the dryer cycle does not begin. i waited through the cycle and the alarm came on at the end of the cycle as though it was in normal cycle. it seems that the only failure is for the heat and drum cycle to operate.

please reread my question the problem is with my HE2 Electric Dryer not the washing machine. Thanks.

  • rricejr673 Jun 23, 2009

nope, the belt is fine and spins with the drum (there is resistance). i'm wondering about if it may be in a switch. i hear the electrical click that i normally hear just before the drum begins to turn and the heat would come on. the dryer goes through the whole cycle and beeps as though it has gone through the cycle. what is it that tells the drum to turn and the heater to come on?

it seems to be the 1.5 inch switch/fuse but i'll have to take it in tomorrow to have it checked/replaced. thanks for the help.

Hi,

The problem sounds like the motor to transmission coupler. If it is not draining or spinning you may find that the lid switch is inop.

A complete troubleshoot guide would be :-

There are many parts that have to do with the Whirlpool washer not spinning.
The first thing you need to check is the wall outlet to make sure that there are about 120 volts present at the outlet.

The lid switch also know as the door switch, has to be working in order for the washer to be able to drain or spin.

The motor coupler is the part that transfers the rotation of the motor, to the transmission.
When the motor run in a counterclockwise direction the washer will agitate and when it runs clockwise the washer will spin. A broken motor coupler could be the reason when the Whirlpool washer is not spinning or agitating.
The basket drive block is the part use to couple the spin drum to the brake & drive tube. A broken basket block will stop the washer from spinning.

The clutch is the part use to make the washer spin. A broken clutch cam driver could be the reason why your washer is not spinning The brake and drive tube is the part responsible for stopping the spin drum when the washer is agitating and for spinning the spin drum when the timer calls for spin.

The transmission is the part in charge of making the washer agitate or spin according to the rotation of the motor.

The motor is what makes the washer work. A motor that overheats could be the reason why your Whirlpool washer is not spinning.
The timer is the brain of the washer, it is a distribution center that distributes the electricity to the different parts in the washer.
As you could see there are many parts that could be the reason why your Whirlpool washer is not spinning. You will have to check each one of the parts mention until you find out which one the causing the washer not to spin.

Hope i helped you.

    Oops, Bingo!!!!!!

If drum spins very easy. Belt will have resistance. If dryer has bottom
access panel, pop it off and you'll see belt laying on bottom - Belt is BROKEN.

Unless, My suspect would be "MOTOR".

    Check and let me know.

    Hope i helped you.

    Hi,

In this case, i bet you have Faulty Motor that cannot sustain load. Still, regarding the switch, yes in few models of Kenmore, there are 2 fuses.

Remove the rear cover and there are two fuses. One is a little white
fuse about 1.5 inches long, located near the middle toward the bottom
on the blower housing. The other one is on the left side of the
heating element canister toward the top. Check both of these for
continuity and let me know what you find.

    Hope i helped you.

    Thanks for using "Fixya".

My electricity went out now my kenmor dryer will not come on

Check the breaker in the main electrical panel and re-set it (re-set even if it appears to be on). Also check your owner's manual and see if you have a re-set button on the dryer itself.
