SOURCE: need wiring diagram for 1980's 3 ton package unit

I assume you know if this is correct voltage and single or 3 phase, and whether it will fit your application or not, how is the duct work going to attach, how many people will be in the conditioned area, what is the building made of, how much insulation is has...

A little more to it than just "turn it on".

If you get the models and serial and can contact the manufacturer or their representative you might get a wire diagram. Most any package unit would do. As long as you keep the original equipment controls. If you "patch" it up it may be hazardous by not having safety's where it was designed for. Or for instance It may have a anti freeze thermostat. By passing this could lead to coil freeze up and compressor damage. Leaving out a pressure switch (if any) may do the same or could become dangerous to people in the event of fan motor failure. A low temperature fan speed switch may not be needed now unless you plan to run the AC in below 55'f.
And a few dozen other factors that might need to be considered.

If you feel confident after this then contact carrier.

Please rate me as high as you can and thanks for using fixya.

Intertherm moble home furnace My heat strips came on one night while my a/c was running. We awoke to 101* temps. I removed the orange...

Sounds like a bad sequencer (the thing you unplugged the wire from probalbly). It will have 24vac supplied to the heating element in the sequencer and most likely 240vac being passed by the sequencer to the heat strips. This parts are not very expensive and can be purchased at a heating and air supply or a mobile home supply company. You can turn off the power and use an ohmmeter to figure out which one is bad. There may be only one or there may be 2 or 3. Let me know what you find.

Can I mix brands/tons when installing AC unit to existing coils?

First off - the 'rule of thumb' is 600' per ton of Air Conditioning. In other words your old unit is a 2 ton unit. So - 2 tons x 600' = 1200'. As you can see if you install the 2.5 ton unit - you will be installing a AC that 'could' cool a 1500 sq ft house (2.5 x 600' =1500 sq ft.). Slightly more than what you need; and the 3.5 ton unit is 'way to big,' (3.5 x 600' = 2100 sq ft.).

Note: fyi - many in the AC business will sometimes refer to tonnage in btu's, i.e. 1 ton = 12000 btu - hence a '2 ton unit' can also be referred to as a 24000 btu unit and vice versa.

So... from the above - you can easily see that "2 tons" of Air conditioning is what is required to cool the 'average' home of 1100 sq ft. "roughly speaking."

Note: it is always best to have a professional 'size' your cooling/heating needs.

One of your questions was could you 'mix tonnage?'

The answer is 'usually you don't mix the tonnage of your outside/inside units.' However, professionals sometimes do (mix the tonnage) in certain situations, and installing a 2.5 ton outside unit with an existing 2 ton inside unit is often done, however, there are some 'tech issues' here and - I would "again" recommend that you call a Service Tech to help you with the sizing/mixing of your cooling/heating needs.

hope this has helped
