Question about DVD & Blu-Ray Players

2 Answers

"Unknown disK" RH4820 I have an LG RH 4820. The player no longer reads any disks. The error messgage reads 'unknown disk please try again'. If see that message again I am going to go mad. I have cleaned with the recommended disk cleaners, to no avail. I spent £300 on my player only two years ago and now it is effectiveley useless. I would like the name and address of your complaints department to request a refund. If this is not forthcoming I shall make it my mission to slate LG products with everyone I know. Re: "Unknown disK"

Hi Guys,

The only solution for this problem is to follow
1. laser clean up. you can find it in any electronic shops and clean the laser reader of your dvd player
2. Disc clean up (optional) as the problem is mainly from the dvd player/reader.
3. Unhook the power chord and restart again... see whether it works
4. If all these method does not work, you need to repair the player. But please remember, it will costs you around 50 dollars and by that money, you can buy a new and good dvd player.
5. If its a dvd recorder that has the problem of unknown disc, then just use your recorder for recording and instead of repair it, buy a new dvd player for 50 dollars.

Unknown disk error when putting disk in player.

when the disc player shows unknown disc error, it simply implies that the lens of the player is weak and cannot read the disc.

the solution is for you to try to clean the lens with a lens cleaner or better still replace the lens.

take care

Will not accept DVD RW disks except the LG variety also does not appear to like other +R's either.

After reading the manual about ten times realised that this particular machine will only accept -R, or -RW's. We've been trying to work with +R and +RW's ... On one occasion after formatting the disk on a computer (+RW) placed it in machine .. It rejected it... but would not eject it and in consequence we had to literally dismantle the machine to physically remove the disk!!!!

Thanks for your time!

I had the same problem. It was fixed under warranty. It was some sort of alignment problem. It would not play SOME commercially produced DVD's either.

"Unknown disK"

I think the simple solution is to NEVER EVER purchase another thing made by LG. Vote with your hard earned dollars thats how i'm going to deal with it. I have an RC797T that I really like when it works, the only problem is that every six months or so I have to pay $69 plus shipping to have the software reloaded at the service center, this so it will play dvds not the tray open tray close game. I don't think it is Best Buys problem if you don't take stuff back in 30 days they are off the hook. Get the word out tell everyone you know that LG sells junk and not to buy it. If this info was online when I was shopping for a new dvd player I would have one that works not L_ousy G_arbage.

I had the same problem "unknown disk, please check disk". Tried the reset method described in the owner's manual (power off, unplug and wait 5 seconds). This did not work.

I then put the unit into the setup mode (press set-up on the remote.) I selected "Factory Settings" under the general category and then chose "Set". These reset the unit and it seems to be working okay now. Hope this helps.
