Your elec cmc elec tilt and trim will keep your motor from kicking up in reverse you must have a problem on the swivel bracket on the motor

SOURCE: Motor spits and sputters
If it is old enough to have points then I would check them and make shure they are clean and gapped at .020. if that is noth the problem then it sounds like a fuel issue. Either a weak pump or a dirty carb.

First find the fuse box, replace any blown or incorrectly rated fuses. Inspect electrical connections at the switch and the tilt ram, repair if necessary and coat with lanolin for long protection. If it turns out to be a fuse you mite be wise to inspect the wiring for any green or black areas this can mean shorts.
I hope its easy to fix, Timo.

You should have a High Speed carb adjust and a Low Speed carb adjust. If it's running fine while idling, adjust the high speed setting. If you have two nobs, its the lower one. May be set wrong. If you don't have two nobs, remove the carburator and check the jets to make sure they are completely clean or better yet, order yourself a carb rebuild kit to take care of all of this. I just rebuilt my 1971 evinrude 4hp and the carb kit made the world of difference.

If the gear lever is loose,it's the gear connection rod that you disconnect to do a g/box drop.If its not loose, drop the g/box off the leg and the first thing you find might be the problem.A loose bolt,a jammed shifter. It will probably be a connection problem than a g/box problemHope this helps
