Question about Magnavox ZV427MG9 DVD Recorder VCR

Open Question

Why does my Magnavox VHS/DVD player-recorder make a high-pitched squealing sound when I play an old VHS tape in it?

I have the exact same problem with the exact same model Magnavox DVD/VHS player-recorder # ZV427MG9. When I try to play one of my VHS tapes that is old and was recorded on 10-15 years ago I get the same horrible high-pitched squealing sound, but, if I play an old tape that was professionally recorded with a movie on it OR an old tape that I recorded on within the last year or so, the audio is fine. A local repair shop owner told me that the audio track runs along the bottom of the VHS tape, and that, especially since the video looks fine (despite the high-pitched squeal) it was probably an audio head that needs to be calibrated that with time got shaken loose and would cost about $40.00 dollars to have him fix--HOWEVER--that would not explain (in my opinion) why the old tapes that were professionally recorded or the newer tapes that I had recently recorded on don't produce the noise. What do you think?

Power off when inserting vhs tape

I had this problem when copying an old family vhs tape. I had to unscrew the top of the magnavox to access the vhs tape. Then, I gently removed the tape and replaced the cover. After winding the tape back, I put it in the player and immediately pushed fast forward for about 3 seconds before hitting play followed by d.dubbing. I was able to make a copy of the tape and did not damage my original.

I recently copied some of my old VHS tapes onto DVD-R disc & they play fine on my Magnavox, but won't play on my other DVD player. What did I do wrong?

Check through, the settings of Magnavox and do the similar region
settings in your other DVD.

In short to say, recording format and the play back format does not
match. if you corect this through the MENU available, it should be OK.

May be your other DVD is old model!

I have a Magnavox ZV427MG9. I follow all directions in manual for dubbing VHS home movies to DVD but when I try to play the DVD back there's nothing on them. What am I doing wrong?

Depending on the procedure you may be pressing the record button instead of the D.Dubbing or Dubbing button. When recording from VHS to DVD you must first, load the blank DVD and VHS home movies, then play the VHS movies, then PAUSE the VHS movie when you want to START recording... then the only the you have to do is pressing the D.Dubbing button or the Dubbing button. If your VHS tapes starts to play after the Dubbing button is pressed you have been successful in Dubbing.

DVD recorded discs (from VHS) do not play on other dvd players

I called the manufacturer. They admitted to improper instructions. They provided me a fix to their copying protocol and it worked. Also, they game me instructions on how to fix already copied tapes. It works well and I would have to say I was impressed with their customer/technical service.

Vhs tapes recorded to DVD+R's

try forwarding the tape to the end and then rewind to the start again, this can help to seat the tape correctly on the spindle . the audio track part of the tape is in a specific region on the tape so misalignment may be the issue with those cassettes.

also try to press the tracking up and down when playing the video

VHS Recording Tape

not much of a help but sounds like your record head is bad on the vhs heads,

use cleaning tape try that, if that fixes great, if it helps but not fully there, you might have to clean them by hand with very soft paper town and rubbing alcohol rub side to side very easy , if none of the above work you have a bad record head or record board, not worth repair vs cost
good luck
