You need to go into the computer setup mode (displayed on the screen on start-up) and enable that function inside the setup utility.
There should be a category for Power Management and accessing the settings inside of that utility will enable you to modify the setting and save the new settings. Look at the bottom of the screen for the keys needed to save the setting. Once that is completed, you may also need to check Windows settings to ensure that Windows has it set to enable the system from sleep mode back to an active mode.

Cant get power saving mode off

Step 1:
Sleep Mode b> Sleep mode is primarily used with home computers (desktop computers). Sleep mode is designed to save the current work, programs, and settings of your computer using your computers memory, while using very little power. b> Hibernate Mode b> Hibernate mode is primarily used with laptop's. Hibernate mode is designed to save your computers current state on to the hard disk, then turn off your computer to stop using power completely. This mode is usually used when you do not plan on using your laptop for an extended amount of time. Benefits b> Using Hibernate mode is more power-efficient, but files may become fragmented over time by using this mode frequently. Sleep mode does consume more power, but the advantage that Sleep mode has over Hibernate is that it does not take as long to resume your computers former state when you are ready to continue using it.

How can I enable hibernation on my HP Mini 5101?

Hello,

Welcome to FixYa, the world's largest product support community.

Generally all Windows OS has an option for sleep & hibernate.

Windows XP Users
  • Sleep Mode
By letting your computer idle for a period of time, i.e. not moving the mouse/touchpad, or not pressing any keys except when playing a video, the screen or desktop monitor will go dark. You can resume the computer by moving the mouse/touchpad or by pressing any key on the keyboard.
  • Hibernation or Standby mode
Click Start, click on Turn Off Computer, then click Stand By.

Windows VISTA/Windows 7 Users

To put Windows VISTA & Windows 7 in Sleep or in Hibernation, the steps basically the same. First click Start, then click the small arrow head located to the right of the Start Menu, then you click Sleep or Hibernate.

Should I Leave my PC in sleep mode after use?

Go green & use hibernate instead.
Well, actually a lot also depends upon what is the duration of you not using the system between breaks. Hibernate anyways is quicker than a normal boot process. I would highly recommend hibernate.
Sleep - is a combination of stand by and hibernate. Be default most of the newer system will write the memory info into hibernation file & put your system to stand by mode. After certain period say 2-3 hours your system will go into hibernate mode. (these are standard settings & unless you keep coming back in 15-20 mins you should use hibernate & contribute towards environment too)

Can HP dv2715nr hibernate instead of putting it on sleep mode?

Hi,

It sounds like the hibernate feature is missing from the power options list. Click on start button, select shut down, and then hold shif or ctrl and stand by should change to hibernate.

Let me know how you get on.

Regards.

Curious - What is the moon shaped key all about

this button puts the computer into sleep mode.

FROM WIKIPEDIA-

Sleep mode can go by many different names, including Stand By (Microsoft Windows 95-Server 2003), Sleep (Mac OS 8)-(Mac OS X) / (Windows Vista,Windows Server 2008), and Suspend (Linux). When placed in this Sleep mode, aside from the RAM which is required to restore the machine's state, the computer attempts to cut power to all unneeded parts of the machine. Because of the large power savings, most laptops automatically enter this mode when the computer is running on batteries and the lid is closed.
Though Sleep and Hibernate are generally thought as two separate functions, modern Macintoshes, Windows Vista (termed Hybrid Sleep), and some specially configured Linux machines also feature a variation of Sleep mode that incorporates the strengths of Hibernate. The RAM is copied to the hard drive before sleep mode is initiated, preserving the RAM contents in the event of a power loss.
ACPI is the current standard for power management, superseding APM and providing the backbone for sleep and hibernation on modern computers. Sleep mode corresponds to ACPI mode S3. When a non-ACPI device is plugged in, Windows will sometimes disable stand-by functionality for the whole operating system. Without ACPI functionality, as seen on older hardware, sleep mode is usually restricted to turning off the monitor and spinning down the hard drive.

Where is the Sleep Button to put D-I'n-1000 into hibernation

There is no SLEEP BUTTON per se on and Inspiron 1000 system.

Enabling Hibernate is easy enough though. Go to Control Panel, POWER OPTIONS. In the power options window, click the hibernate tab and ensure the ENABLE HIBERNATION checkbox is checked., then click the ADVANCED TAB. Look for the "When I close the lid of my computer option and select HIBERNATE.

Since that system doesn't have a SLEEP BUTTON, that option may be listed, but is of no use.

Hit the keyboard keys. It is better to just turn sleep and hibernate off and just use a screen saver or tun it off.
