Do the pictures have the same line when viewing them on a PC or other device? If so, great chance your camera sensor or the connection to is is dammaged. If you only see it on the display, the display is dammaged, but you still can us the camera to shoot pictures.

This camera is 'broken' - repair will be expensive, so replacement may be better, especially as technology has moved on somewhat

There must be the CCD problem:
To resolve this problem, you need to contact Kodak Authorised Service Center. They may be free replacement applicable.

In lesser digital camera chips, this is typically "vertical smear". It is especially apparent if there is a much brighter light source in the image. I.E., a street lamp on a dark street. I have used an early version of the Mavica and experienced this type of situation with that camera, so am assuming that this is typical throughout the Mavica model line. The work-sround is be particular about the lighting situations you shoot with the camera.

There is no hope for the display..Plan on spending about 50 - 70 dollars for a new TFT display.

Let a local Photographer look at your camera or send it to canon

Current LCD display technology can reproduce about 300 different levels of brightness. Brightly lit scenes or light sources may exceed this brightness range, causing a temporary disruption (artifacts) in the live display. Artifacts are part of the display, but they are not part of your recorded image. If you take a picture while you see artifacts on the screen and then display the picture on the LCD, you will no longer see the artifacts.
