SOURCE: Cable box, digital service, channels not appearing

connect the RF lead from the wall to your cable box then out from that to your dvd then out from your dvd to your tv. now connect a scart lead from the cable box to AV 2 on the DVD then connect AV 1 on the DVD to your TV if you have a second scart on your tv connect that to the cable box. NOW on the DVD select AV2 now whatever is on the cable box will be recorded onto DVD/VCR. Put the DVD recorder into VCR mode and set it to auto tune all the Digital Video Broadcasts. You cannot physically tune the cable boxes own channels into the DVD via RF it has to be via a scart.

SOURCE: Panasonic DMR-EZ47V DVD Recorder /

Hi,
Yes, you can connect an HD set-top box to the Panasonic recorder and record from it, but I will need to know the model number of the set-top box to be able to tell you exactly how to connect and how to record:

If your set-top box has a S-Video OUT port, you will be able to record both HD and SD (standard definition / non-HD) channels. If it does not have S-Video OUT, you will only be able to record SD channels. The Panasonic recorder only has S-Video and composite video IN sockets. S-Video will carry an HD signal, but composite will only carry an SD signal.

If you can let me know the model number, I can draw a connection diagram for you and let you know which settings to use on the player for recording.

Please reply to me with this information by clicking on "Add a Comment" below your question.

Thanks,
BElectric

Will the Panasonic DMR-E30 DVD Recorder replace my STB to receive the digital free to air stations on my tv?

Only if it has a built in digital tuner, and, if it does, the digital is only SD (standard definition). If not, you would still need the set top box to receive HD (you could connect the box to the DVD recorder (for HD and/or SD) as required if you wish to record channels). Most set top boxes have both SD and HD channels in their tuners, so it would most likely be the next best option if your DVD recorder does not have a built in digital tuner. You can check your DVD recorder's on screen setup menu to see if digital services exist within it. Either way, keep your set top box just in case.

My problem is I have a dvd player DMR-ES 15 I live in australia is it possible to tune in the new tv stations example seven 2

It is not possible to tune in 7two, channel 11, GO! or similar digital channels with this model DVD recorder, as its tuner would most likely be analogue only. You would either need to upgrade to a model with a digital tuner built in, or purchase an external set top box, capable of SD and HD digital reception, and connect its AV outputs to the respective inputs of the recorder, in order to record the channels you want.

However, being in OZ, those digital channels are available as free to air - all you would need is the appropriate receiver to enjoy them. I recommend a set top box which offers HD as well as SD.

When connected to the Panasonic DVD player I get a message when on One HD and any channel above that - "Unable to decode HD". How can I connect to these channels through the player?

You can't, without an external HD set top box connected via the recorder's inputs. HD is not a standard digital tuner format for this or any model Panasonic DVD recorder that I am aware of. Panasonic do not offer a way for the user/owner to skip the HD channels (which cannot be decoded) in these units. You can only skip analogue channels in VCRs/DVD recorders (which feature an integrated SD digital/analogue tuning system) - stupid really. It just means you need a separate box to get all the available HD channels through the unit.

Yes, 7mate (channel 73) is HD (but it isn't specified on their website or in the EPG) as is Gem ( channel 90) and of course One HD.

I assume your machine has a built in SD digital tuner.

Now that we are on digital will the SD-37VB dvd vcr recorder work or do I have to alter a setting to make this happen

If the unit has a built in analogue tuner, the unit itself will still operate as normal, but without the built in analogue channels - to record a TV show, you would need to connect an external set top box to it (SD or HD - or both).

In other words, apart from a separate set top box, if required, there should be no need to change any of the unit's settings if it works as is. I do not believe this model has a built-in digital (DVB) tuner.

I have DMEZ 47V DVD recorder/VCR combo and panasonic digital/ HD tv...when I set up to pre record the equipment seems to accept the information ok but when i try to playback all i get is ..."cannot...

The reason for this is simple; the built-in digital tuner does not support HD, only SD. You cannot fix it, at least not economically where the recorder combo is concerned. But you can obtain a separate HD set top box, and connect the outputs of it to the inputs of your combo if you really want to record HD channels. It's crude, but cheaper and easier in the long term, and it doesn't damage your machine.

Cant record now i have a set top box

Press Av button next to HDD button 3 times. The first time selects the built in aerial connection, the second press selects a camcorder and the third time will give you access to a connected HD set top box with all its stations

Record and watch different channels with freesat

I believe that the Humax can only output 1 channel and because it has no built in hdd and twin channel capabilty that is all you can record 1 channel (unlike sky +/sky HD) so that means also that unless you watch a different source (like the picture from your aerial (terrestial channels)) you are stuck with having to watch the channel you record

I am having problems hooking it up to an HD Receiver from Direct TV

playback and record are 2 different things. playback, you connect the DVD player audio-video OUT to the audio-video IN of the TV. recording, you connect the DVD player from the audio-video IN to the audio-video OUT of the source (i.e. cable box, set-top box, etc) hope this helps!
