Hi. I think you're looking for Shawneen by Alan Roche. I used to recite it many years ago. I think it goes like this.

Shawneen by Alan Roche

God knows, life's never easy.

All bother and distress.

But nothing hurts the human heart

Like the pain of loneliness.

My Mary died and left me

A year ago today.

And even still the burning tears

Are never far away.

But ach! I'm not complaining

For God was good to me

I still can count my blessings.

They're there for all to see.

I have my consolation

I wasn't left alone

I still have one who cares for me;

Shawneen, my little son.

He was only six when Mary died

But he had manly ways.

And oh! He was a comfort

Through all those lonely days.

I did my best for Shawneen

And I think the garsoon knew

I was trying hard to give him

Love enough for two.

Last Sunday he was seven

And I asked what he'd prefer

As a present for his birthday;

A train or a teddy bear.

He never hesitated

But piped up like a lark;

'Da, will you bring me

To the final in Croke Park.'

'Right,' says I. 'I'll take you.'

And his little eyes lit up.

Our team was playing Kerry

For the Sam Maguire cup.

I dressed him up that morning

He was up at the crack of dawn.

And off we went to Dublin

To cheer his heroes on.

He yelled, he clapped and he whistled

When the teams came out to play.

Ahh! Shawneen was in heaven

At the football match that day.

And when our fellows scored a goal

You should have heard him cheer.

The little lad was happy

For the first time in a year.

If Mary could have seen him

I know well she'd be glad

To see the brightness shinning

In eyes that were so sad.

He was shaking with excitement

As the football match went on

And I thought he'd burst with yelling

At the end when our team won.

I knew how he was feeling

For as I watched the lad

I remember my own boyhood

And the glorious dreams I had.

I was just like Shawneen

Football mad, I swear.

And always, always dreaming

That I'd be a football star.

Of course I never made it.

The dream just dies away.

But I remember thinking

I might have a son someday.

A son who'd fill the longing

That every father has.

A son who'd be the man

His father never was.

I had a funny feeling

That Shawneen could understand

For he snuggled up beside me

And gently pressed my hand.

And then he turned to me and said'

'Da! When I grow up

I'll help our team to win again

The Sam Maguire cup.'

'I'll be the centre forward

And when I get that ball

I'll run as fast as lightning

And I'll score the winning goal.'

Shawneen went on dreaming

Of that day when he would be

A mighty football hero;

A day he'll never see.

The evening had grown colder

And the sky was grey and dark

As I pushed his wheelchair slowly

From that final in Croke Park.

SOURCE: hello, im looking for a

Found it. Please vote for my answer:

To You,

I had this long letter for you. I had so much to say to you. I was going to tell you all and leave nothing out. I was going to make you feel the passions in my words. I was going to write until I felt secure that I made my point. I had it all plan out, to start from the beginning and not stop until I reached the end. I told myself that I was going to use the right words. I was going to re-read it ten times, so I was sure it made sense. I had it all figured out, my letter will be my heart in ink. I had this long letter for you, just ready to mail off to you.

I dreamt that when you read it, you would know everything you needed to know. I prayed that when you finally read it, it would make a difference. I hoped when you opened it up, you would sit back and take it all in. I wanted my letter to mean the world to you. I wished that every word would come to life, holding you captive to its honesty. I wanted to be able to place an adverb exactly at the right spot, so it could emphasis its truth. I wanted to develop a flow that made it easy to read with precision. I wanted to find the right adjective, so you would know its sincerity. I wrote you a long letter.

I finished the letter yesterday. I worked on my letter for a few days. Adding and subtracting from it, as I saw fit. It was perfection. It was my heart. It was my thoughts. It was my emotions. It was me. I finally got it all out. It was right there in front of me. Your letter, ready to be mailed, it needed one last reading. As I reached the P.S., Please let me know what you think. Page by page, I placed it in the shredder. It was a good letter.

The famous poem that describes how a person should look at life to be calm...i.e give me the strength to accep what I cannot change

O God and Heavenly Father,Grant to us the serenity of mind to accept that which cannot be changed; courage to change that which can be changed, and wisdom to know the one from the other, through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

I love writing poetry and i wondered if there is anywhere i can publish it. the problem is i havent finished the book yet is it possible to publish one poem?

yes you can publish one you need to get it copyrighted first and you can do that easy by getting and envelope put the poem in it and mail it to yourself but never open it. That is a quick way to copyright then you can just go to a publishing company.
