Put the console on.(It can stand horizontal or vertical)Put in a game.If it says "open tray"thats fine.Open the tray, then put in a CD.Play the CD for 15min.Then put in a DVD.If it says"play dvd"
luck is on your side.Play the DVD for 20min and then take out the DVD and put in a game, but don't take to long before you put in a game. And it wil maybe make wierd sound but that's alright. And then.you can play the game.Takes a while but it worth the wait
Hope it work's for you!

Hey, open up your xbox if it isnt under warrenty, if you cnopen the dvd drive, look to see on the underside, of the top metal case, if there is a little round magnet stuck there, if so you need to superglue that to the center of your dvd drive moter, smooth side up. it should fit very nicely. slap it back together and whalla

The problem could be that the rubber wheel in the drive that drives the disk is dirty and can no longer grip the disk or the other possibility is this. There is a plastic wheel that is mounted in the top of the drive this can get stuck to one side and not function then the disc doesn't run true or at all. Take the drive apart and check those to things. You might be surprised how dirty and full of dust bunnies it is. You wouldn't believe what I have seen inside drives.

Sounds like a hardware issue, does it do the same with DVD's or audio cd's? if it does your best bet is to contact microsoft, the console may be have to repaired.

Okay mine did the same thing all you really have to do is iether send it in or you can get an eye cleaner disk or a bottle of dust cleaner, and spray it in the disk tray,it does this because it cant tell what the game is so it stalls out and that is what the scratching noise is.

It sounds like the laser might be going bad. Try playing a regular dvd movie and see if it will play it if it doesn't play a music cd. If it works then it sounds like your need to replace your dvd laser lens. Of course try and see if cleaning it works.

I had this problem it happens mostly when i would disconnect my x box to take it down stairs to play i would plug it back in and it would say open trey with my game in it. believe it or not cds with gray covering would work after a little fight. I use the movie the ruins or blades of glory.when you put the disk in move they trey yo the side as its goin in and put ur hand on top of the x box u can feel it trying to read it may not work first time but if u dont have warrenty use a little force when u close the tray u will feel the x box start ruuning the disk.it will say play dvd take out the movie and put ur game in and there u go problem solve but if u got warrenty just take it back. now i have the problem to were the trey wont stop opening. im getting a new one this time i getting the best warrenty

Ok i have the same problem and still do to this day, but i know a trick that works for me , but take takes a while to get it working. well, 1.when u see the open tray thing go to dashboard(it sounds stupid but trust me)2.then take out the harddrive(it will restart)3. then let it go to dashboard agin(with no harddrive)4.then do #1 again but after u do that put in the harddrive(it will restart). keep on doing this over and over again and if u have luck on ur side it should work.
Hope i helped.
(gamertag) x EpiC x Brandn
P.S. i play COD4

Ok wat ever u do dont put any more discs in it. wat you have to do is put the up in the opisite position that it was not in. Make sure there arnt any discs in it when u do this. I lost 2 games to this issue. make sure u dont bump or change the position of the xbox while your playing a game, if you want to do so take the disc out while you change it. Lastly, if you hear that sound ever again take your disc out immediatly!!

What i do is, first of all.. if you game is in your console, take it out.
Then restart the console.. and when it appears on Dashboard again after the restart put the game back in.
This usually works for me about 70% of the time, it's is a real ball ache though so i feel for you :)

I had the same problem, you're 360 is probably set as pal 50. 360 games are either pal 50 or 60. If you're Xbox is set as pal 50 it'll only read pal 50 games, but pal 60 reads both. You could probably do this is yourself or just take it to the store you bought it from and they'll do it for you.

Try putting the xbox 360 for 48 hours without power onon its side it, doesnt damage the xox because xbox's are built to be upwards or sidewards

Take out your harddrive for 10 mins.
