Question about IBM EXP400 External SCSI Storage Enclosure p/n 17331RU (17331RUB) Drive Case
After switching off EXP400 drives and switch on again - the RAID controller cannot see drives. The message on RAID controller is "14 drives defunct"
Hi,
A 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
The service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
Good luck!

SOURCE: raid w/ hard drive defunct
Well lets make some assumptions
1. You have a Raid 5 System
2. You only have 3 drives in the Raid ARRAY
3. Only 1 drive has failed
To fix the problem you should only need to Replace the Failed Drive
Then start the raid management software or bios
Rebuild the array
If you have more than 1 drive failed in a RAID 5, and still must recover the data it is possible. But very expensive. Still fixable however.

SOURCE: Cant create additional raid
Hi martyblue
Check this for specs:
http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/xref/usxref.pdf
The raid controller onboard is dual channel. Are you using a serveraid card as well? How have you configured the existing arrays? You may need to use the other channel if not already in use. Are the new drives ultra320 drives of same speed?

SOURCE: Troubleshoot ServeRaid problem on IBM x335 Box
The likelyhood that 2 drives fail at the same time is remote. I would first look to teh controller as the problem. Also, check the power supply. The only common things are the 5V and12V supply.
