Question about Heating & Cooling

2 Answers

I have a 2000 Mercury Sable OHV 3.0L V6 engine. I drive the car every day to work without turning the AC on and it does fine. As soon as I turn the AC on, it starts to over heat. I already changed the thermostat, and temperture switch. I suspect the next thing I have to change is the compressor. what else can it be.

Your A/C Works, so its not the Compressor. Don't Ask, change the water pump and do also a pre-fllush, with a good Radiator Flush, and do a full flush-out of the cooling system that will take care of the entire Engine Block and water ways, in the process, look carefully at the Top and Bottom Hoses going to the Radiator, if swollen near the clamps or any part, change them in the Flush Process, and do not use water when filling-up, use a good pre-mix like Prestone and similar brand Coolant. I am pretty sure, it is the service it may have needed for the long haul again!

Is the fan runnung? Also could be the water pump. Running the A/C puts alot of extra strain on the motor.

No oil pressure, camshaft position sensor error,

Yes, the sensor is in small housing the goes in the hole where the distributor used to go. That also drives the oil pump so don't drive it you'll ruin the engine. It's located down under the throttle body, near transmission end of the engine.

re: 1996 Mercury Sable, ohv V6 . . . . A mechanic diagnosed the cause of engine failure to a bent piston rod as a result of someone having poured water directly into the engine -- is that possible? Further, research showed evidence that water had been leaking past the head gasket directly into the affected cylinder. Additionally, the heads had to be resurfaced.

1989 Mercury Sable, 3.0L V-6, Auto Trans. Engine Idles at about 2000 RPM.

Check your vacuum hoses (They are 3/8" Rubber hosing on the right side of the engine, you will need to remove the air intake piping (Also remove the throttle body to make accessing them easier) This is the #1 cause of high idling in the 3.0 OHV and 3.0 DOHC sable engines.
