Question about Xerox WorkCentre 6605/DN Color Laser Multifunction Printer

1 Answer

What is the cause and solution of a loud grinding noise coming from a xerox workcentre 6605 when printing

The intermitent grinding or loud gear type noise happens shortly after the printer starts running and lasts after the paper is thru the cycle. I have done all routine maintenance and inspected the unit and can't see anything. the only remote possibility that i saw is that there is a spring tensioned gear set on the duplex assembly/transfer roller attached to the back hinged door/panel . My thought was that if these are not being held against the mating gears with enough force this may be it. However the spring appears to be good and everything appears to be correct.

Sometimes when the toners get low on toner you will hear the gears grinding, or if there is an obstruction in the waste toner auger. Also check the drum units to make sure they are turning freely.

SOURCE: 2 sided printing problem

What driver did you download? The PS driver is much less capable and I am wondering if thats what you downloaded.
I am using the PCL driver and the selections are 1 sided, 2 sided long edge , 2 sided short edge.
Unless you are runnung CAD, you really should be running a PCL driver.
Maybe I am misunderstand what you are telling me also.
If you have the PCL driver and thats still a problem let me know and I will forward all I can find.

SOURCE: Replace Transfer Roller

In the Phaser 6250 Color Laser Printer Service Manual (which I had to have emailed to me from my toner supplier since it is not available to the general public) I went to Chapter 6 - Error Messages and Codes. I had to reboot the printer. Here is the procedure.

Entering by rebooting the printer:

1. Turn the printer power OFF
2. Hold down the Back and Information buttons simutaneously and turn the printer
back on.
3. Continue to hold the buttons until the following message is displayed on the front
panel: Service Diagnostics V#.##, Initializing ....., and then release the buttons.
4. The front panel displays the Service Diagnostics Menu.

On the display is a menu. Find Transfer Roller. Press enter on this menu where it says Toner Waste (Not Full). Back out of the menu.

All of a sudden the machine came to life. You may have to turn off the printer and turn it back on again.

Good Luck

There is mostlikey a scrap of paper that you can not see still in the machine. You can gently walk a thicker piece of paper through the paper path and see if it pushes out the obstruction. Be very careful not to scratch the drum when you try this.
Hope this helps

Defiantly a main drive issue, slipping belt can make the noise you described, sometimes the pulley gets tight or the tensioner binds causing the belt to slip

Gear grinding

Sounds like your Process Drive Assembly has broken its mounting posts and the gears are no longer meshing properly, causing the grinding noise. The drive assy is located on the right side of the machine toward the front. It is held in place with 3 screws. If you wiggle on the gear assy and it moves, then you should go ahead and replace the machine. This is not a do-it-yourself type of repair and should be left to a Xerox Certified Technician if you decide to repair the machine.

Xerox 6360dn, Tray 2 makes loud grinding noise when printing. Tray 1 is as quiet as a mouse. Replaced tray 2 with a known good tray and it still makes grinding noise.

In my experience, it was the registration roller causing the grinding noise. See http://my.brainshark.com/Phaser-6300-6350-6360-Grinding-Noise-795590408 for troubleshooting video.

Copies are coming out with a dark horizontal lines and printer is making a rather loud sound when paper is in printing process.

Two things that can cause print quality issues and noise.
1. The toner cartridge can cause lines and sometimes can make a squeaking noise.
2. The fuser can cause streaking and smudges on the prints and can cause a grinding noise if the drive gear is worn or the bushings are worn.

Squeaky printer/copier

Probably paper dust stuck in the gears, you can try to blow it out with some compressed air, it could be due to differing humidity levels now that it is getting colder - I wouldn't worry too much over it, some noise is normal. Clicking, grinding, popping, however - that could mean something is about to go. But slight squeaking shouldn't be too much cause for worry, there's alot of moving parts in there to keep well lubed up... ;)

Loud clattering noise

-Open the Front Cover. -Remove the Toner Cartridge -Remove the Drum Cartridge -Next locate the black gear attached to the end of the Drum and turn it with your fingers. -Check to see if the gear is locked, or difficult to turn. The gear will only turn in one direction. -If the gear won't turn at all, or if it catches while you are turning it, or if you hear the same noise when you turn the gear that you heard when the machine was on, the Drum Cartridge is the cause and will need to be replaced.
