Question about Poulan Pro 22inch 625 Series Briggs Stratton Gas Powered Side DischargeMulch Front Wheel Drive SelfPropelled Lawn Mower With High Rear Wheels PR625Y22SHP

1 Answer

After been in storage for two years I've tried using my Poulan, I clean the floater area making sure not old fuel is there, but still is not running unless I put gas directly into the carb and it does it for few secs.

I took the carb apart and check all lines are free of any debris or gunk, but still is not working unless I put the gas directly in carb. I will proceed to soak it on carb cleaner.

The carbs on small engines have numerous jets which clog very easily. If you are able, remove the carb and soak it in a carburetor cleaning solvent......make sure to remove the gaskets or purchase a gasket kit before you soak. Remove the carb from the cleaner and let it dry. Reinstall.
You may want to check the fuel lines and primer bulb while you are at it. Good luck and I hope this helps.

SOURCE: Poulan snowblower with tecumseh engine runs

This is a common problem with snow blowers becuase they set around more then they get used and the gas gets stale and cloggs up the carb. First thing to try is remove the bolt that holds the carb bowl on and clean it. It should have 1 or 2 holes through the side close to the bottem and 1 hole about half way up. If this doesn't do the trick you need to remove the whole carb disassemble and soak it in carb cleaner.

SOURCE: Just bought a used poulan

Hi! I'm going to throw some possibilities out there and some may sound stupid but I want to cover all of our bases and they are arranged in order of the most likely cause of the problem and in order of the troubleshooting teps you should take.

  1. Have you attempted to prime the line/tank?
  2. The most common cause of having zero response when you attempt to start it is a bad spark plug connection to the plug. Check the boot to the plug and the terminal connector and make sure that everything is OK. The prior owner may have intentionally disconnected it for storage or may have removed the sparkplug entirely.
  3. If the connections seem OK, try replacing the sparkplug. The gap tolerance is .028 to .036.
  4. Again, since this is used, Check your battery, make sure it's actually connected and then make sure that it's actually good. Give it a charge if necessary, if it doesn't take, replace it.
  5. Your model has an option for an electric starter. If yours came with this, again check all of the connection.
  6. The last thing I could recommend would be to check the fuel line but since you didn't mention the smell of gasoline I doubt that it's damaged, however it could be gunked up. The problem with buying used even if the item is "like new" is that you never know to what extent that the previous owner used it, and whether it was just cleaned up really well to make it look like new.
If you have any more questions or can provide more information, let me know and I'll be glad to help however I can. Thanks for using FIxYa, Andy!

SOURCE: Poulan pro honda engine stalls as auto choke lever moves

Hi, when you say you cleaned the carb, did you strip it down and blow all the jets out with compressed air? If so, check that you have fuel flowing into the carb. If all this is ok check the valve clearances. Regards Phil.

Gas blower engine surges and shuts off when engine gets hot

check your fuel lines for cracks, could be sucking air or could be your carb needs cleaning, make sure you clean the screen inside the carb, if you run it with the choke on partially does it smooth out and quit surging, if so it is definitely a fuel problem. Hope I helped you. 2StrokeJim

Hi goldengear...

Make sure you have installed the blade on the right way, if it is installed upside down then it will "beat" the grass instead of cutting it and make a terrible cut, also make sure the blade is good and sharp.
The rough running may be due to trash in your carburetor, I would advise to clean your carburetor and also check you fuel tank for trash, water, etc. if there is any trash, water, etc in there then you need to also clean the fuel tank.
Do one more thing and check/clean/replace your fuel filter if you have one.

Poulan 16" saw, start fine,

Usually when a small engine starts fine.. runs fine.. gets hot it's ignition related.

First you want to make sure the cooling fins are clean.. remove any covers and clean the area around the head. If those fins are clogged.. not good.

Second I would check the spark.. and the spark plug condtion.

Also for power tools that don't get used that often.. fuel sytems get gummed up.. fuel gets old.. and folks tend to use the fuel in the can they mixed two seasons ago. Make sure the fuel mix is correct.

I assume it is running fine with the choke off.. however check the choke for proper operation.

Clean or replace the air filter as well.. once all the ignition and fuel components are in good order.. only then should you begin to adjust the carb. Probably not needed.. but don't do it until you are satisfied that you have good air fuel mix and proper spark.
Best of luck

I have a 14" Woodshark Poulan chainsaw. I put in

Poulan Chainsaws are pretty well all powered by two stroke engines. My best guess is that you have the fuel mixture incorrect (it should be a 1:40 ratio of oil to gas). if the fuel mixture is not the problem then your choke is messed up. If you haven't tried already try and find the sweet spot in the choke where it will run.

Hi Roy ,

Your bike has been sitting in storage and the fuel is too old ad is stale by now .
Re open the carby , clean it properly with new fuel , all the jets need to be inspected for dirt or residue left by the old fuel , drain all the fuel out of the tank and replace it by new fuel .
The old fuel leaves a deposit film which needs to be clean so the best way is to pour a little fuel into your tank , shake the tank to clean it and drain it again .
Make sure that all gasket in the carby are clean or new as extra air intake will make the bike run rough .
Try all this and you will see that the bike will run better .

Poulan 14" chain saw will not start

Usually, the fuel filter gets gummed-up from leaving it in any kind of fuel for long periods of time. Fish it out of the tank and either clean it in spray-carburetor-cleaner or replace it. Check the condition of the fuel lines while you are at it. Proper storage is to drain the tank and run the engine until it stops. If still won't run, the carburetor internals may need cleaning and re-kitting. Make sure the spark plug is firing correctly. Hope this helps!

Chain saw won't start

Check the fuel filter for plugging (which is common when fuel is left in the machine over winter storage). You should run the carburetor dry after emptying the fuel tank for storage.Hope this helps!

Poulan leaf blower won't start

Check the fuel lines for cracks/breaks. If they are o.k., then:

You will need to disassemble the carburetor and spray with carb.cleaner.Make sure the small screen is free of debris. (Should be able to see daylight through it.)

Use a Den Tek Brush, (,to clean the small portals in carb. These portals can become blocked. Reassemble and start.

If the carb. parts are more than 4 years old, you may have to replace them.

If you need further assistance on:
1. Fuel line replacement or
2. Carburetor kit replacement

Just let me know.
