Question about True Refrigerators

Ranco k series thermostat

I got a 2nd hand Haier mini fridge (HSE02WNAWW) to make cheese. Higher temp goes to 44F... and I need something between 50-60F. I opened the knob temp control box inside the fridge and saw the thermostat is a Ramco (not sure what model because it has printed K50, K52, K60, etc, so it one of the K series). I saw is has a little silver piece of tape covering 2 screws. The head of one is just above the surface as normal and the other is inside but there is a little hole so you can reach it with a screwdriver. My question is what of these 2 screws should I tight/loose to increase/get the temperature I need (50-60F)? I would really apprreciate any light about it. You can reply to jaimef69@yahoo.com

This thermostat is no longer available so be careful. Not knowing the workings though why not the direct approach. Adjust one screw in one direction (my guess is ccw) and see what temp changes. I would think the two screws are for high and low limits. If you cant get it higher (with knob at max) try the other direction first and then the other screw.... good luck.

SOURCE: How do I remove cover from fridge temperature control panel?

lever off the thermostat knob and you will often find fixing screws behind. also, fixing screws are often hidden behind little blanking plugs which lever out to expose the screw head

SOURCE: I have a True GDM-10

Eric,

Thank you for choosing FixYa. I wanted to ask quickly, why are you using a Ranco temperature controller? According to the manual for this refridgerator (available here even though it doesn't have the model listed, this is what I got every time I searched for this model, so I'm assuming it's the same) on page 20, there is a procedure for altering the internal temperature.

You will need a philips screwdriver, a 5/64" or 2mm allen wrench, and a T-7 torx wrench (all available at home depot, etc). You'll need to alter the temperature by a +20 on the low end, and +33 on the high end. These are referred to cut out and cut in temperatures, respectively. Follow the instructions on the manual to remove the temperature control. Each quarter turn increases the temperature by 2 degrees, to to increase your cut out temperature (the low end) to 50 degrees, you'll need to turn the allen screw clockwise 10/4 turns, or 5 full revolutions. Likewise for the cut in temperature (the high end), turn the T-7 torx screw 6 full revolutions clockwise, followed by a quarter turn (to increase to 67). If you want it up to 68, give it another 1/8 turn.

You can fine tune the temperature (with a little bit of effort and time) by replacing the temperature module then using a digital thermometer to measure the temperature. If it's outside the bounds of your needs, take the temperature control back out and tweak the controls a bit. Clockwise is warmer, anti-clockwise is colder.

I don't know if this actually solves your problem or is impossible for you, but I wanted to let you know in case you weren't aware that this model has a built-in functionality for altering the temperature. The issue you're running into is that constant cycling of the compressor without allowing it to defrost every now and then is very harmful to the system and can end up burning out your compressor, leaving you with very costly repairs.

Also take a look at this document. It is a technical service document for GDM models, and may contain some very good information. It sounds like you are fairly mechanically inclined, so I don't believe that you should have any trouble following the instructions.

Hopefully I could help, let me know if there's anything I didn't answer or anything else I can tell you!

Tj

Ranco k series

You need to take that control to a refrigeration supply house and get the proper control replacement. Those are factory set. One is differential and the other is set for temp. The adjustments in the field just don't stay put and will fail after messing with them. Ranco has a book that the supply house has that will give you what you need and the part is generally on the shelf. Hope this helps and good luck.

My mini fridge stopped working while I was at work

RF-6850-16 Start Relay
Is the compressor again getting hot once you turn the temperature down? Will the refrigerator cool if you turn the temperature to as cold as it can get? Reason I ask is I am trying to decide if it is the thermostat or a defective staryt relay. Even at the cost of parts I would be careful and sure of what you are going to do here. Haier is not well know for quality products or customer support and there are other brands names out there that will support customers much better than Haier. Not trying to say bad things about your refrigerator I just hate to see when people invest into something and then get left holding something that Haier will not help with and does to all of their customer. Thanks Sea Breeze
I have lost valuable customers because of Haiers lack of customer support.

Haier HSW02C runs ALL the time

Yes your thermostat is shorted. It's just not shutting the unit off ever. A thermostat is something you can touch as a user, so no it's not that hard to get to for replacement. Also have the unit unplugged while learning how to repair your appliance.

My Haier mini fridge (model # HSW02C) is freezing everything in it's contents no matter what number setting (1-7) it's on. Is 1 supposed to be the coldest setting, or is 7? What should I do?

Hello
Number 1 may be the warmest.Set it to 2 or 3 and give it some time,a couple of hours to level out.

If this does not work try a higher number.

If still no luck then the thermostat or sensing bulb is bad and should be replaced.

The fridge freeze the food

The thermostat is probably stuck closed and bad. A good replacement would be a Ranco A12-1560. If its not the thermostat there may be a stuck relay on newer modes coolers.

Which wires go wear when installing a new thermostat in my mini fridge?

In a mini fridge there are only two wires to the thermostat. I really does not matter which wire goes were because all it does is turn it off and on. Sea Breeze
