Could be the tension on the belt is incorrect, or a worn pulley, or a pulley that is not running true due to bad shaft bearings.

Sounds to me that the belt has stretched,to a point that it slips. Most drive belts,on a riding mower hasn't any adjustments,so the way to repair this problem is, to purchase a new belt. Hope this information helps. B. Locke

Hayter 56 pro lawn mower will not drive with weight on roller I have replaced belt

Sounds like the belt is slipping
Is your new belt the right one or is it the same length as the old worn one.
You might try spraying the belt with a belt dressing and that may work if its the belt slipping.
Another thought is your belt tightener working properly.
Just throwing out ideas to check.

Sounds like your transmission is shot if its a geared mower. If its a belt driven hydrostatic mower the belt is slipping and needs to be replaced.

Belt jump off the drive pulley

I don't have this kind of mower. But I was faced with the same problem recently. I got my belt back on by taking a large wrench and affixing it to the bolt head holding the pulley which you want to slip the belt on. Hold the belt firmly against the pulley and turn the wrench and the belt in the grove will walk around the pulley until it slips in place.
