Question about LG Televison & Video

Open Question

How do I hook up onkyo tx-nr 818 to lg smart tv with 1 HDMI OUT TO TV but using multi Blu ray/ Roku / Cable box in to receiver?

I'm running all Components (eg Roku, Apple TV, Blu Ray, CABLE DVR, Sony PS3 via HDMI into the corresponding inputs on receiver...TX-Nr818 bc of the Onkyo's great video and audio processing. I'm running One HDMI (main) Out to LG tv Input. BUT I have to run optical Toslink from TV to 818 bc in order for me to hear smart content or anything broadcasted From and On TV , via DLNA, movies/ music from PC. ALSO, in order for me to watch/ listen to smart tv content or Dlna I HAVE TO change Input on 818 to TV/ Cd to use the optical so I can see and hear. This a major Pain! Not seamless what so ever !!! Please Help me fix this annoying problem. FYI: I have tried every option/ sync/ Rihd/ SUB Hdmi out to receiver also changing inputs on receiver for HDMI AUTO RETURN TO WORK TOO. this is what drives me nuts, I can watch cable, blue ray rokuetc.. All day correctly thru the receiver to the Tv, I just can't watch it the same way with Dlna and smart features! There has got to be something I'm not doing right! Please help, I've had this TV for 2 months now and have given up to move on to other projects. Thanks in advance for any help!!

SOURCE: PDP4210EA1 Plasma TV black and white pic on reg RF input-no signal on other inputs

does the DVD player connect to the same port as the regular cable vision ?
If no I would be looking at the port that the cable vision connects to, to see if part of that circuit is shot.
Another question, has the T.V. been moved from one location to another just prior to this happenning? As plasma T.V.s can only be tilted on a 15 degree angle.

Right now there seems to be many people with the same TV problems with sony and HDMI cables. Most of the solutions are resetting the TV and sony product. Try leaving your TV unplugged for a hour to let it reset itself.

First, HDMI is not a perfect hook-up solution. Cable box connections via HDMI are notorious for being problematic. The best thing you can do is contact Samsung and get the latest firmware for your TV.
Samsung Customer Care: 1-800-Samsung (1-800-726-7864). If this does not resolve the issue, connect the cable box using Component cables instead of the HDMI. Component cables are HD also. I hope this was of some assistance.

I have a LG LHB335 Blu-Ray home theater system, & a LG TV I can get Full surround sound when the blu-ray is play a DVD but not when just watching Reg TV. I use a HDMI, should I hook up sonething else ?...

LG documentation states:

When you use SIMPLINK function, you have to

connect to the OPTICAL IN 1 jack to enjoy TV
sound to your speaker system.

Basically you need to have the Audio go from TV to receiver and setup receiver to that Input to output surround sound to all speakers.

If you have a cable box or satellite receiver, hook that output into the receivers input and that should work.

My setup is DirectTv HDMI output goes into the LG Home Theater HDMI Input 1, and LG goes HDMI output into the TV HDMI input 1.
so to watch DirectTV, I switch LG Home theater to HDMI Input 1. and TV is on HDMI input 1 (to view LG HDMI output from DriectTV, Blu-Ray, Vudu, etc.)

HDMI signal cuts out for a few seconds constantly from receiver to television. It does it when switched to cable box and the roku box. Onkyo TX-SR606 Scientific Atlanta Cable box thru HDMI Roku Box...

Mine did the same thing where the screen would go black for a few seconds and then the picture and sound came back. I would try (1) switch HDMI cables, (2) try a different HDMI input in the back of the receiver, (3) try different input in the back of the TV. None of these seemed to work with mine. I finally ended up running the cable box direct to the TV and only run the audio through the reciever via coax or digital. No more problems. I think the HDMI inputs in the back of the reciever have a problem continuously carrying the signal if it is the leaset bit weak.

Cable TV blinks on and off when connected to my Onkyo receiver.

I have the same problem.  It only occurs with my HD DVR (HDMI cable), not my blue ray (HDMI cable), or my xbox and wii (component video).  Video and audio cutout is random and drives the family nuts.  I am desperate for a solution.

I have an audio problem with my TX-SR502.

If your remote also controls the Cable Box you might want to look at its audio settings. Maybe you muted it.

BTW: it would be a good idea to also run video and analog audio from the cable box directly to the TV if it has speakers so you can watch and listen independent of the Onkyo.

I just bought a Blue Ray player but my surround sound has a dvd player built in and only one input which I have my new Sharp TV plugged into. How can I hook up my Blue Ray . I have the HDMI cables

Depending on if your surround system has a hdmi input or not. if it does you can connect the blu-ray player to it. If it doesn't have an hdmi input you will have to run the hdmi cable from the blu-ray to the tv then run a set of rca cables (red and white plugs) from the tv audio out to the surround systems' audio input jacks to get sound through the surround system. Most surround systems don't have an auxiliary input for another video device.

HDMI connection with Panasonic DMP-BD35K Blu-Ray Disc Player

Try hooking the Panasonic up straight to the tv without going through the receiver. If it displays a picture its obviously not the blu-ray player. May also be a problem with the HDMI cable itself. Hope this helps.

What Blu Ray to buy for ONKYO TX-NR801 for Dolby TrueHD, etc???

Hi, as the Onkyo receiver you have does not have HDMI switching, the only thing it will do for you with a Blu-Ray player is process the audio signals.  The video from the BR player will have to go directly to an HDMI input of your hi def TV.  In this case, either Sony or Panasonic BR player will be equal.  Assuming you keep the Onkyo unit you have, you would want to use the optical digital output from the BR player as the audio source into one of the optical, digital audio inputs on the Onkyo.  In an ideal world, your receiver would some that does do HDMI switching.  This way, all the audio and video signals from any audio or video source would be automatically switched and channeled through 1 simple HDMI cable into your hi def TV.  This will make you life simpler as ther would be no need to select an appropriate input on the TV, as well as one on the receiver.  That said, buying a new receiver in addition to a BR player is more costly.  Good luck.  Let us know how it goes.
