I have a bernzomatic 94499 patio heater does anyone know where I can find an owners manual? The pilot will light but not the burner? There is a brass fitting towards the back that seems to be the burner...

You need to replace that brass piece . Its a thermocouple. Bernzomatic does not sell a replacement thermocouple, however I had success using Mr. Heater 12.5" replacement thermocouple. You can buy it from Ace hardware. Its also sold on Amazon.
http://www.amazon.com/Mr-Heater-12-5-Thermocouple-Heaters/dp/B000BP7LJ2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1325746531&sr=8-1

To remove the nut on the old thermocouple I use a 13/32" socket. I think a 10mm would work also. Must be a deepwell socket. The new Mr. Heater nut takes a 7/16" socket. The old thermocouple runs to a black plastic piece with soldered on connectors. I removed this piece entirely. The electric igniter's ground wire runs to one of the bolts, so that must be put back after the piece has been removed. I did make the effort put the white cloth cover over the new thermocouple. I took it off the old one. I barely fits over the nut, and must be worked on like a Chinese finger trap but it will go. Good luck.

Need to replace a control knob on bernzomatic patio heater, where would I get one? Called the company and they said they don't make them anymore.

what you could do is have like a lever valve (like the ones on garden hoses but for gas systems)
and then have the burner on full blast but you control the amount of gas going in
