Basically I am just asking that if the outside red light is flashing on my Baumatic fridge freezer is it saying that the thermostat on the freezer has broken as the temperature in the freezer is not strong enough

Can you narrow this down with a model number?

Hello, Its BF290SS Freestanding 290L. Hope this helps

  • maniman May 19, 2014

Okay, this fridge uses a red light to signify that the temperature is suitable for storage. Since its flashing I think this may be indicating a fault in the cooling portion- does the food section get cool enough? If not then I'd start by looking at the therrmostat to be sure its not in 'cool only mode', then move to the common errors

I'll dig a little further as I'm not familur with the Baumatic in the US but here's some reading... First check the door switch as many use it to keep the compressor off while the door is open and remember jsut because the inside light it on it doesn't mean a lot- it needs to be checked.Condenser Coils are Dirty, Evaporator Fan Motor the unit may have more than one and need this to cool the refrigerantIf the fan is not working, no cold air will get to the refrigerator compartment. The freezer may still get cold. The Condenser Fan Motor, If the refrigerator is not cold enough there might be something caught in the condenser fan motor blade, or the condenser fan motor might be defective. The condenser fan motor draws air over the condenser coils to cool them. The condenser fan motor is located underneath the refrigerator near the back. Pull the refrigerator out from the wall and remove the access panel to access it. or the Start Relay If the refrigerator is not cold enough, the start relay may be defective. The start relay is a small device mounted to the side of the compressor. It provides power to the run winding along with the start winding for a split second at start-up to help get the compressor started. If the start relay is defective the compressor may run intermittently or not at all and the refrigerator will not get cold enough. The start relay should be replaced if defective. and then there is the Temperature Control Thermostat If the refrigerator does not get cold enough the temperature control thermostat might be defective. The thermostat allows power to flow through to the compressor, evaporator fan and condenser fan. If the cooling system fans and compressor are running, but the refrigerator or freezer is not cooling correctly check for an airflow or defrost system problem. Enter your model number to see parts for your refrigerator. The Start Capacitor If the refrigerator isn't cold enough the compressor might be having difficulty starting. The start capacitor serves as a battery to give the compressor a little boost during start-up. If the start capacitor is burned out the compressor might not be able to start and run as often as it should. Test the start capacitor first with a capacitance meter, they don't fail often. If it's defective, replace it. COuld als be a Thermistor If the refrigerator is not cold enough the thermistor might be defective. The thermistor is a sensor which monitors the air temperature. It is connected to the control board. If the thermistor is defective the refrigerator does not cool or may cool continuously. Possibly the Temperature Control Board If the refrigerator is not cold enough the temperature control board might be defective. The temperature control board provides the voltage to the fan motors and compressor. These boards are often misdiagnosed. Check all other components to be certain this is the cause of the problem. The Compressor (I doubt it) If the refrigerator is not cold enough, the compressor might be defective. The compressor is a motor which compresses the refrigerant and circulates the refrigerant through the evaporator and condenser coils. There are several other components which are more likely to be defective if the compressor doesn't work. If the compressor itself is defective a licensed professional will need to replace it. Lastly, the Main Control Board If the refrigerator is not cold enough the main control board might be defective. This is not common. Check the defrost system, cooling fans, and cooling controls first.

SOURCE: FFA60 Hotpoint fridge/freezer Red warning light

if i read the english right, the compressor runs but the freezer fan only runs for a short time. no fan then no cooling. there is a fan stat so that the fan only runs when the evap is down to temp. this may be faulty. also on some hotpoint, the fan switches off when door opened. check door switch operating ok. this may also explain problem with fridge lamp

SOURCE: CPCA240FFK orange (super) light keeps flashing

I had the same problem on 27th December 2007, orange light flashing. I telephoned the Warrranty company who informed me to switch it off for 10 to 15 minutes and the light should go out.
I did this and it worked however temperature with mine is fluctuating as I have bought a thermometer and am currently waiting for an Engineer to call (he's due on the 7th January). Hope this solution is useful, it may solve your problem.

SOURCE: No light in fridge compartment, Not freezing. Light in freezer co

Your door switch is bad.  When doors are opened, the fan stops.  No cooling.  When it closes, fan starts.  Bulb is just an indicator of no power to unit...probably burned out contact in switch.

SOURCE: flashing lights super chill super freeze

This is probably because you turned off the fridge at the mains (to defrost??). To stop the flashing lights and to restore normal operation, turn both the Supercool and Superfreeze knobs counterclockwise to "off" and then back to the operating position. Thats all!

MODEL AFG 5496-C FREEZER WHICH BUTTON SHOULD BE LIT WHEN SWITCHED ON TO FREEZE

Green light means that freezer is connected to the mains/electric

Red means that your freezer has not reached minimum working freezing temperature, this is not good news, something may be wrong with your freezer, get it checked by a competent person.
yellow light means that you have switched the fast freeze button on. This yellow switch allows the freezer to run continuously so that the frozen food you brought home from shopping can freeze up quicker. You must not leave this light on for more than 3 hours. It will cause you to waste a lot of electric and will place a lot of stress on the working component in the fridge.

It's telling you it has a fault, you have to find out who is doing the warranty work for Baumatic now, by law they have to honor the warranty.

I have a Baumatic fridge/freezer the fridge is not cold even on maximum setting the model number is BRB2713 please can you suggest what the problem might be

First check the simple things. Check to condenser grill and make sure the air flow is not blocked by lint, etc. And then make sure that nothing is blocking the cooling tubes between the freezer and refrigerator. I think the Baumatic has a fan pulling the cold air up from the freezer compartment into the fridge, if that isn't working, the freezer would be fine, but the fridge would be to warm.

Both Lights flashing and fridge not getting cold

I turned the fridge and freezer off using the circular dials, I then turned the unit off at the mains. Left it for a few minutes and then turned the power back on. I then turned the circular dials to "max" and then depressed the super cool and super freeze buttons to turn this facility on. This time they came on normally (not flashing) and no alarm sounded. The fridge and freezer then started to get cold. Once the unit had been running for several hours I then turned the dials to the 3/4 mark and depressed the super cool and super freeze buttons again to turn them off. Over night the fridge and the freezer appear to be working properly so I hope that my problem is solved. Maybe the unit just needed to "settle" before being switched on?
