My 8- year old Norcent monitor just started acting up. I can barely see the dvd picture beneath a grid of broken, colored lines. Has my Norcent died?

Does this sort of problem show up all at once? It did on my screen: one night it's fine, the next it's not. Any idea what causes it?

SOURCE: vertical colored lines

I had the same problem with my monitor, saw only coloured vertical lines. I opened it, opened the back of the metal casing to get access to the circuits. There I found a loose connector. I reset it and it worked again!

SOURCE: Magenta vertical stripe sets plus grid dots problem

Staples office supply store said it was the monitor and, after buying and installing a new $200 monitor, I discovered it wasn't the monitor. I brought my hard drive to a reputable computer repair place, who charged me $50 total to install a new video card. He also supped up my hard drive with an additional 512K ram for $20 and now things are so much better. You were right! It was the video card.

My ten year old sony plasma tv has vertical herring bone lines no picture just color lines. Is my picture tube gone.

If its 10 years old boards and or parts will likely not be available--average life on Plasma and LCD sets is 3-5 years.

I would retire it--recycle it and buy a new set.

Why does the color white spread on my monitor

It is possible that there is a grid voltage problem due to a leak on the capacitor for biasing the grid . So check on the HT section for the capacitor in the grid to the CRT. replace all high voltage capacitors, REDUCE the SCREEN voltage on the LOT(( line output trnasformer)
This must solve the issue.
Thank you using Fixya.

Monitor picture goes off after start-up

It sounds like you have a monitor with a common problem. After a few years some LCD monitors willblow a power supply. The problem is caused by parts called capacitorsoverheating in the confined space of he monitor. If you are good at electronics repair/soldering you can usually fix he problem. Check out a few pictures on my web site Youcan take the back cover off your monitor and look for the badparts, replace any that look like the pictures and your monitor shouldwork fine. The capacitors do need to be installed with the correct + and-connections, note the stripe on the old one and insert the new onethe same way. If you don't want to try the repair yourself we offer a repairservice for $35 plus shipping. If your problem is not the capacitorsthen it would be the backlights and that is much more difficult toreplace.

I hope this helps, if so please rate my solution.

Magenta vertical stripe sets plus grid dots problem

Try using a diffrent computer on this and see if its not the video card doing it or if not its the controller board inside that connect to the video card that would need to be replaced at this time, if there are no dead or stuck pixels it might be worth replacing rather then buying a new one.
