Question about Kenmore Dishwashers

1 Answer

Is it normal for our filter assembly to be holding water after the cycle is over?

The small tub in the bottom of the dishwasher that holds the upper filter assembly is holding water after the cycle is over. Is that what it's supposed to do? Otherwise the dishwasher is running very well. Thank you!

As far as i know, no. I am not an expert. but have some experience with water remaining in the tub. Mainly you want to make sure that your drain hose loops above your garbage disposal. if it does not do this , the minute you turn your kitchen faucet on . it causes the drain water to siphon back into the unit. Good luck!

SOURCE: Dishwasher doesn't drain

Greg, if the model number ends in GO1, your dishwasher has a piston nut assy. thats problably giving you the grief. If this assy. goes bad you will have water left in the tub at the end of the wash. A common GE problem. It's located under the filter screen in the back and just unscrews out. Part number is wd24x199. It's an easy fix. Look up the part on the net to get an idea of what it looks like. Catriver..post back.

SOURCE: dishwasher

GE 720 Potscrubber I started with the water puddling in bottom now it progressed to leaking on the floor. I had a repair guy come to my home yesterday and he says a broken seal and my total cost to replace seal and labor is $165 plus tax.
What is the life expectancy? He did not sound too promising about the future of my dishwasher and said he is certain there will be another repair need shortly something related to the water saturating an area underneath the dishwasher?
He reccomended I call Sears and replace with a Whirlpool product. He claimed he put his kids thru college repairing GE products. My husband wants to repair and I dont because of fear of spending more money!

Look in your whirlpool instruction book to see if yours is warrentied. BTW, my dishwasher is only three years old.

Top Rack does not clean, Pump was just replaced. No Error codes. Heat is good, house water pressure is good, drain is good. I've cleaned the filter.

You do not say if the drain pump, the main motor, or the entire motor / sump assembly was replaced. If all the holes in the upper spray arms are clear, replace the VIRO motor. It is a small motor next to the main motor, and it switches a water valve to divert water to either the bottom spray arm or the top spray arm, intermittently. (normally about a 2 minute cycle, unless a "top rack only" setting is selected, etc.) The dishwasher has to be removed from the cabinets to replace it.

Samsung DMR78 dishwasher makes a grinding noise at the beginning of the wash cycle as well as the rinse cycle. Also comes up with the code 9E on occasion.

Check the brackets that hold the top rack for any broken plastic brackets. My dishwasher was making the same noise and after noticing the broken plastic pieces I pulled out the dishwasher put it on its side removed a white panel on the bottom that is attached with two screws, removed the drain line and inside there were two plastic tabs from the broken bracket. Once those were removed the grinding noise stopped. The bracket holding the drain hose can be removed with a pair of pliers.

My Bosch shx46A05UC no longer will drain.....it

I ran into the SAME problem with my Bosch SHX46A06UC /21. The problem ultimately ended up being a clog in the air gap vent, (meaning, SOMEBODY ran the dishwasher without the bottom filter being in place or not in place properly). Remove the air gap cover and upper surface nut to drop the air gap vent into the area under the sink. Disconnect the hoses from the air gap vent filter (placing a bucket under the hose from the dishwasher). Run the drain cycle on the dishwasher. The washer should drain into the bucket and let you know that your pump works and that there are no clogs or kinks in the drain hose. (This will also remove the clog if so). The air gap vent's smaller hose connection is MOST LIKELY where your clog is. Look at the upper end of the air gap vent. You'll see a couple of clips on opposite sides of each other, that hold the air vent cap in place. Using a small screwdriver, (or your hands if you can), depress the clips (or one at a time) to get to the point where you can pull the vent cap off the filter. Either use water or a thin, long blade screwdriver to force any objects out of the filter. You should now have full flow through both branches of the filter. Using water and a rag, clean the vent cap and filter. Mount the air gap vent filter back onto the sink. Reconnect the hoses and remove the dishwasher's internal filter(s) and clean them as well while you're at it, making sure to remove any debris that might remain underneath the filter and has the chance of clogging the unit again.

Run the washer again to test. You should be good!

Cheers!

Dishwasher drains but leaves behind about 1/2" of standing water

Water standing in the bottom of the tub is normal.
A small amount of clean water around the outlet on the tub bottom at the back of the tub keeps the water seal lubricated.

A small amount of water may be normal.  Clean the filter at the bottom of the tub.  Sprinkle some baking soda inside between washes.

Bosch dishwasher has standing water doesnt drain out, repair man pushed 2 buttons cancel drain and it drained last month, but happened again today and it wont work for me

Fixed mine very easily... After checking and cleaning the filters by the tub's drain, I checked the air vent atop the sink -- it had a small bit of gunk trapped in the outlet. Cleaned it out, ran a "rinse & hold" cycle and it drained the tub beautifully!

I have a BOSCH 8280 dishwasher which at the end of its cycle still has soapy water in the bottom of the machine. The dishes, and especially the cutlery, are left smeared and looking unfinished. I lifted...

There is a float, which controls water level, that caused this draining problem.

Lift out the main filter assembly in the floor of the dishwasher.
You can now see a small cover, positioned at the front right of the area normally covered by the filter assembly.
Click this small cover off. You should now be able to push the small float out (upwards) with your finger.
Clean the float, removing any scale or other gunge which is on it,
Refit (reverse of the remove instructions) and all should now be functioning correctly.

Not enough water in tub

Mderford, on a normal fill, the water should be just above the filter screen. 1.8 gallons first fill, 1.7 on all other fills. Don't think it would be a siphoning problem as you are not having this on the pots/pans. Check the float, make sure it is not sticking. You can check the inlet valve filter screen to see if it is not plugged. Run it through the diagnostics cycle by pushing high temp-air dry-high temp-air dry. Some models it's heated dry-normal-heated dry-normal. It will run through a self test for about 20 minutes. See if any error codes come up. Fill time should be approx. 1:30 to 1:40 seconds. If any of the aformentioned doesn't turn up any results, then it's possibly a faulty fill valve drive circuit on the control itself...Catriver..post back.
