How do I flush the drain on my frig. Model gsh25hgmb

I don't know about flushing... I've always passed a single cable (not rigid wire) down through the vent hole to get all the gunk out.

Hotpoint model #ctxy14epjrwh slow water drip from inside of the refrigerator. inside the top of the frig, center, there are several components that appear to come down from the freezer. the lowest one...

That water is from the melting frost of the automatic defrost cycle. Their is drain in the freezer behind the back wall under the evaperator coil that is blocked, so instead of defrost water draining it's pooling in the freezer or in some case espically on models with the freezer on the top,the water is leaking from the freezer vents into the fresh food compartment.
The way to clear the drain is remove back plate and remove all ice build up and GENTLY make a small hole in drain through then totally flush w/warm water.
The exact location of drain is under the coil behind back freezer plate in the centeroldtech2332_52.jpg

Good afternoon........ I have a top mount frig.. we bought it in 1998. The frig works great..... The only problem we have is water seems to built up on the inside bottom of the frig.... I know it is not...

Hi Dan,

It sounds like you have a defrost drain issue. An annoyance to say the least. To repair you will need to clear the defrost drain as it can get a build up over a few years of use. On a top freezer model you will need to unload the freezer and remove the back panel, be sure the power is disconnected by unplugging the refrigerator.

With the back panel off you will see a set of coils that resemble a radiator in a car, below that coil is a pan that slopes to a hole the size of a dime, you may not be able to see that hole due to the ice build up. Clear the ice with hot water and towels to clean up the mess. Careful not to use anything sharp or damage the coil.

Once the ice is gone use a turkey baster to flush hot water down that dime sized hole until it flows clear, you will know when it is.

Reassemble and enjoy a water free frig.

Leaking water into frig when defrosts

The problem is the defrost drain is pluged. At the rear of the frig section up at the top you will see a small cup where the water drains into. I always used a large syringe with a rubber hose attached. Fill the syringe with hot tap water and flush the ice out of the drain tube. Once cleaned out and the water runs freely your problem will be solved.

Model TBX21KLK water pooling UNDER vegetable bins

Your evaporator coils frost up in normal use and every eight hours or so the entire unit shuts down and the defrost heater comes on to melt the frost. This cycle last about 20 minutes. The melted frost drips into a drain pan and through a drain tube to the drain tray under the freezer/refrigerator where it's evaporated by the condenser fan.

Your drain tube may be stopped up with ice at the upper end because it drains too slow because it's stopped up at the lower end in the evaporator pan under the unit at the floor. It can get dust and mold in it. Once you get the ice out at the top a little pressure with a turkey baster will usually clear it out. Flushing it out with hot water and clorox may help.
Make sure it drains quick enough to prevent refreezing. . The drain should be located below the evaporator coils on the lower back of the freezer.

The freezer leaks water onto the bottom of frig and freezes.

Hi, It sounds like the defrost drain is plugged. You will need to remove the rear inside freezer panel and remove the ice covering the drain hole. Once the drain hole is clear, flush it out with hot water to make sure it is open. I use a baisting syreinge to flush them. Sometimes the dust from under the refrigerator gets in the drain and plugs them. I have also seen the drain tube under the refrigerator hanging down to low and blocked off where it goes into the drain pan.
Please let me know if this helps you at all or if I can assist you further.

Whirlpool drain clog

yes it is most likely the drain that is plugged and or frozen up. to repair this you will need to remove the rear access cover inside the freezer compartment clear all the ice from the drain pan and flush hot water thru the drain hole located in the drain pan. this is a fairly easy repair you can do youself. the hardest part will be removing and reinstalling the rear cover. good luck peyton.
BTW I use a turkey baster or large syringe filled with hot water to flush the drain line with.

Roper frig, freezer on top ,frozen under tray.water in bottom of frig

sounds like you have a frozen defrost drain. This is a fairly easy repair you can do yourself.
  • Unplug refrigerator
  • unload food from freezer
  • remove icemaker if present (there are 3 screws remove the one on the bottom and loosen the 2 on top of icemaker then lift it off the 2 screws unplug from wiring harness)
  • remove 2 screws holding rear cover in place
  • move cover to the side or remove from unit altogether
  • defrost any and all ice from bottom of freezer and aluminum drain pan that is now exposed
  • flush drain hole that you will see once ice is cleared with warm water. (sometimes I use a large syringe or turkey baster to forcefully flush hot water thru the drain tube)

that should fix you up. if you have any further questions leave me a comment here and I'll gladly help any way I can. thanks Peytonreassemble in reverse order
