Sounds like the rubber cushions that keep the agitator in place have deteriorated. They're under the top and exposed pretty easy

I have a Kenmore Stacked Washer/Dryer (Model 417.91702000) that has had the same thing happen. I have replace mine twice . . .It is the rear dryer bearing.
You can purchase a kit that contains everything to replace it.
You have to work from the front, all the way to the back.
Make sure that you also check the felt pad glide on the front door panel (the drum rotates on this). You may need to replace it also, it should have teflon pads built into the felt that the drum rests on . . .
