Tape not turning. How to fix

There are several things in a tape deck that move when it is playing or recording. There are wheels on the spindles that take up the tape and those wheels are run by rubber belts. The belts get old, break or stretch. The other thing is the capstan. The capstan is a pinch roller that presses against a metal post. That post is the drive motor for the tape. The capstan roller can be worn or cracked, the motor might also not be working,

How to adjust belt?

If you are adjusting the walking belt that much (7 complete turns) it sounds like the drive belt the small rubber belt from the motor to the front roller is really loose. You should only have to adjust the walking belt 2-3 turns max... you do not want to prematurely stretch your walking belt!

You should not adjustthese since they are preset. Tension can be affectedslightly by adjusting the tension of the walking belt but if you have a slippingproblem, the drive belt will require replacement. If yourdrive belt is too loose, it will slip on the front roller pulley or the motorpulley. If it is too tight, it will increase your amp draw to the point thatyou may have an electronics or motor problem. Due to this, it is better to beon the safe side and replace a drive belt rather than riskover tightening it. A drive belt is usually $29.99 or less while many parts youcan damage by over tightening can be more than $300.Additionally, too much tension can cause bearing failure in the motor and thefront roller and front roller pulley failure. It is better to err onhaving the belt a little too tight rather than too loose due to the possibilityof injury if the belt slips. Motor Belt Adjustment-Icon Units Do not remove any of themounting bolts to the motorthese repairs will require 2 9/16" wrenches andmayrequire two people to accomplish the repairs Before beginning this repair: Check to make certain that the drive belt requiresadjustment. Check out belt slipping instructions or with the motor cover removed, walk on the belt normally and try to stall the belt to make it slip. Be careful during this test. If theproblem is in the drive belt, eitherthe drive belt will stop when stalled or the front roller will stop whenstalled. If the motor, drive belt, and front roller continue to turn when thewalking belt is stalled, the problem is with the walking belt slipping on thefront roller. If the drive belt continues to turn but the frontroller stalls, you may have a broken front roller pulley. If you need further assistance, please reach me.

Sincerely. God bless you.

When i am walking on the band it seems as if i am slipping

This could be 1 of 3 things. Either the walking belt need to be tightened, or the rubber motor belt is slipping (under the front hood) or the pulley has come loose from the roller.
First tighten the walking belt using the allen key provided when you purchased the machine. Locate the 2 adjustment bolts at the back of the machine and tighten (clockwise) both bolts 1 turn. Retry the machine. If there is no noticeable difference, remove the hood and see if the rubber belt is slipping. If so tighten the belt by adjusting the motor.

I have a 3x21 inch craftsman belt sander. It's about 12 years old. With the sand paper belt is mounted and tightened and I start to sand something the belt will slip and not sand. I checked the tightening...

The drive and guide rollers are probably drying out and won't grab the paper. Take the drive roller of and treat it with a rubber restoring compund. The roller should not come off easily.

Have Dyson DC14. Lots of suckion through hose but

Had the same problem on brand new cleaner DC14 and it was the belt that drives teh front roller not being connetted to the small silver motor spindle. I just opened the front roller cover (3 easy unlocking screws on base) and saw black rubber belt was not connetted and was loose. I just flipped the belt over the silver motor spindle and away we go (after cover was put back on). It now works as it should!

Eureka 5843 belt keeps slipping off of drive spindle.

Tough one. Typically the only 2 things that the belt contacts is the motor drive spindle and the brush roller. Anything else would only be there to protect the belt from debris. Can you turn the brush by hand and see why the belt is coming off? Is the spindle wobbly? If so, you may need another motor as I don't think it is easy to get parts for the motor. Hope this helps and good luck!

Magnavox msd804 vcr/dvd combo

I think what you are referring to is the pinch roller. This roller sits at the right side of the mechanism, and in play mode, presses the tape up against the capstan shaft. These pull the tape through the machine at a precise regulated speed. If the roller isn't being engaged or the capstan isn't turning, then these conditions need to be corrected. Does the capstan turn freely? How about the noted roller? Perhaps lubricant has dried/hardened/gotten sticky...

There is electronic circuitry for the capstan motor (a direct drive type motor integrated on the underneath side. Something could be awry with this circuitry.

There is a drive clutch mechanism which could also be defective. This drive clutch assembly sits in between & swivels between the supply and takeup spindle, depending on whether VCR is in Play/FFWD or REW. In the Play/FFWD, it is engaging the right spindle (takeup) and in REW the left spindle (supply). If this is what you are describing, perhaps this clutch unit needs replacement or the grease at its pivot is hardened/sticky.

Most VCRs of the last 10+ years don't use a rubber tired drive (very common on late '80s VCRs), rather a gear toothed drive.

Beyond a simple mechanical problem, repair might not be economical feasible. Most VCRs of the last 10+ years are poor quality, disposable, unlike the machines of the '80s and early '90s, which were built like tanks comparitively speaking.
