Usually when these things stop working it has to do with the voltage getting to the receiver or the receiver itself. I suggest you have it replaced since it has probably just quit functioning. I mean the wireless card, not the gobook.

I was having trouble losing satelite connection every 30 seconds. GPS has now gone off and will not switch on

To fix this, you can use an app like GPS Status & Toolbox to clear your GPS data and to start connecting to satellites from scratch. In the app, tap anywhere on the screen, then tap the menu icon and hit Manage A-GPS state. Tap Reset, then when that's finished go back into the Manage A-GPS state menu and tap Download.

710 frozen on tom-tom splash screen

1. Activate the TeleType GPS program

2. Select Tools>GPS Status>Status.

3. Look closely at the GPS output that is displayed in the View Status menu. Data should be flowing even when the GPS receiver has not locked in the position.

The data string that begins:
GPGSV... is "bad data" because the receiver has not locked into the satellites.

Whereas:
GPGSA... is "good data" indicating that the receiver has locked into the satellites. Remember - "A-Okay"

4. Once the data is flowing, go outside away from buildings, select the Satellites tab (Tools>GPS Status>Satellites), and watch the satellite signal strength

I have a ifinder hunt GPS, it will not locate any satellites, it then prompts me to stop searching or continue to search for satellites. I have been trying this device over the last 10 months, mostly on...

With a normal GPS device, when you first switch it on, it needs some time to locate enough satelites. Most of the time it needs at least 5 satelites. Some time should be like minutes and not hours. After the GPS device fond enough satelites, it knows where it is and can when it is switched on again work faster. When you try to let the GPS search for satelites indoors, or without a free view to the sky, it is possible the receiver never can find satelites at all.
I don't know if any test of the Lowrance iFINDER Hunt GPS was placed on the net, but that is where you can check how long it should take for the GPS to find enough satelites.

Updated unit and still acquiring satelites is showing, what can i do?

If your unit is still acquiring satellite, then it means the signal strength is weak, try to get it outside where it can be facing the sky directly so it will be able to acquire satellite. Once you just update your gps receiver, it seems like it is brand new and when it wants to first acquire satellite, it might take longer to do so. But if it has access to the sky directly, it should take about 3 to 5 minutes to acquire.
If your unit is indoor, it may not acquire satellite, even if it is close to the window, it will not, but if it is outside, then it will acquire faster.
Check if you have any protective coating on your windshield or electronic devices which interfere with the unit from receiving signal from the satellite. Try to see if your gps receiver can use an antenna, then connect one to it and your gps will acquire satellite.
Try to reset your gps first before trying any other solution for the unit.

Does not acquire satelites

1) check the PORT and the BAUD are set correctly

2) Battery is fully charged

3) GPS has a clear uninterrupted view of the sky.

4) DO not plug in GPS when starting engine as this kills the SIIRF chip and it will never see a satellite again.

You had better hope its one of the 3 preceding the last one as repairs are expensive.

I am having trouble getting location. Even when I get good satelite coverage (many showing on the screen) No location shows. It also seems to be slow in acquiring upon power up. How do a restore the units...

Hi!

i checked out the Garmin owner's manual for your GPS:
http://www8.garmin.com/manuals/eTrexVista_OwnersManual.pdf

On page 6 it explains that from the satellite page there are four options from which you can choose;

1) Use with GPS off
2) New location
3) Restart search
4) Continue acquiring

If the date displayed on your unit is NOT today's date, select "Restart Search"

Since the GPS does NOT lose memory when the batteries are removed, the problem is unlikely to be that the GPS doesn't know where it was used last.

If the displayed time for your area is not correct, use the main menu to access the setup pages and follow the instructions for setting the time found on page 49. This SHOULD get you on your way.

Good luck!

Only one satellite is enough to find the GPS device location or more satellites are required?

To determine location at least 4 satelites are needed.
If you know one element( latitude,or height) than 3 are sufficient
