If you want to switch on PC Power adaptor alone, take bigest multiwire connector and shortcut GREEN wire with BLACK wire. GREEN is PS_ON and BLACK is Ground. There should be only one green and several black wires. All black are Ground.

There are two pins on the atx connector you need to bridge. You can wire a switch to the pins too if you want so you can toggle on and off. Otherwise, there is a guy on eBay (seller id: antronst) that sells a connector with the pins already bridged with a on/off switch and a resistor wired in to provide some stability for five or six dollars.
Here is a diagram. Make sure it is a standard atx power supply. Some old Dells had goofy wiring.

How do i change dvd rom unit?

  1. Locate where your CD or DVD ROM drive connects to the motherboard and make a note of this. Make sure you know exactly how the gray cable was connected.
  2. Have the new DVD ROM drive handy and unplug and/or slide out (depending on setup) the old one. Unplug the cables from the appropriate places. You do not have to unplug the one going to the DVD ROM. Wiggle back and forth gently and then pull out.
  3. Attach your new cables and reattach to motherboard and power supply where you removed the old ones.
  4. Reattach the power cord and cables, but do not close up the computer entirely yet.
  5. Test your new DVD player by placing a disc in the drive and ensuring the green light comes on and you hear it power on. If this happens without a problem, then close up the case. If not, then check to make sure cables are securely fastened in the correct motherboard slots and to the power supply

Cdrom driver not working

You don't update the bios unless you change to a newer processor,
that isn't supported by the version you have, if you find the system
is less stable then before, reflash to the old Bios.

There is no download for a cd or dvd rom, you only have downloads for chipset, graphics, sound, touchpads, ethernet, and a few other things.

Cd, dvd roms, use windows drivers,So you don't have to look for drivers.
There is something wrong with the unit, if you can plug in any other
cd or dvd and see if it works, to rule out motherboard problem.

If it works, you can see if is under warranty or you will have to get a new one.

Any questions, post back.

No matter what i do cd rom not detecting

check whether the powe plug has been inserted properly and the power plug is working fine. Even though if the power plug inserted is working fine and CD ROM not detecting means CD ROM was damaged.

I cannot boot windows xp

Hi praph_wicked, normal order would be, floppy drive first, CDROM second & Primary hard disk drive third.
How ever if your bios does not comply you can always press the F8 key every two seconds & that should bring up (Please select boot device). Which will look like this;

54d9788.jpg
Choose the CDROM drive with the windows CD in it.
If you have just one CDROM drive, make sure the jumper on the back side of the CDROM is set to "Master". If you have two CDROM drives connected, set one as master & the other to slave.
If using an IDE cable for the two CDROM drives. The CDROM at the end of the data connector is to be set as master, the 2nd CDROM connects to the next IDE connector & Its jumper is set to slave.

Good luck!
Mike

Cd/dvd player is not working

Hello, Follow the instruction:
Press power button and enter BIOS menu. (Bios menu: while PC make sound beep press button "delete")
You can see there BIOS menu. (Be carefully, don`t change anything if you can`t understand something) You have to find there general settings and in general settings you will see boot button.
There will be many boot buttons, but your settings must be that:
First boot: FDD (do not change it)
Second boot: HDD (do not change it)
Third boot: CDROM (if it is not, change it to CDROM or DVD/CDROM)

I am not able to boot from cdrom of my system

Enter pc bios. can you see your cdrom listed in the MAIN menue? Goto Boot. Set your cdrom to first boot device.
Make sure you have a bootable CD in the cdrom. Still can't boot to the cdrom? Think about swapping it out or getting a new one.

Cd rw/dvd rw now working

If you know how to open your laptop, you can try seeing if the cable to the CDROM is connected properly. On startup, does your computer recognize the drive? If it's not the cable, you need a new cdrom drive.
