That is not too alarming, if you are getting sand in the pool under the return line, then you could have a broken lateral assembly in the filter.

SOURCE: my intex sand filter is

You have a broken "lateral". You will have to remove the sand from the filter, find and replace the broken lateral (pipe with slots in it in the bottom of the filter). When you are ready to refill the sand, put enough water in the filter to cover the laterals (several inches actually) to avoid damaging them as you fill.

Thanks for allowing me to assist you this evening @

SOURCE: intex sand filter motor will not run

Opening the little drain plug at the bottom should relieve the pressure and make it easier to turn the basket lid. Is there water to the top of the basket? I had to loosen the clear top of the basket to bleed the air out. If you open the drain where you backwash, will water flow out? It should. Mine flowed out even without the motor running if I remember correctly. If it does not, my guess would be some kind of obstruction.

Hi thevideowatc
Check your o-ring seal to make sure it doesn't have sand under or on it, also it may have cracks in it, or the filter may have cracks in the housing...if that is so, then replace the housing.

Dull or tarnished headlights fix

if you have dull or tarnished headlights that are plastic a good easy cheap fix it a wet sand and buff.

first take some 1000 grit or smoother sand paper and water and lightly sand the headlight lens evenly over the whole lens. while going a little heavier on the duller spots.

after wet sanding is done wash the lens with soap and water. now take a little compound with buffing wheel to the lens again evenly over the whole lens.

wash again making sure you have got all the compound off.

next you will need to glaze the lens with the buffing wheel. again evenly and you will see you headlight lens will look better than brand new.

I'm getting a little sand in the discharge during back wash

that is usually caused by damage to the fingers (laterals) on the standpipe. most times this damage comes from improper winterization or when sand is changed by non professional

Wish to upgrade cartridge filter pump to sand filter pump. Pool size 15' X 48" / pump 1000 gph - 637R /Item no 56945 Which intex sand filter is the best one?

First, understand that sand doesn't filter as finely as cartridges, so "upgrade" may be the wrong word. Cartridges filter down to about 10 microns, sand filters to 25-30 microns. (i.e.the cartridge will catch particles up to 3X smaller than sand will.)

If you still want to change, get the biggest sand filter available that you can comfortably afford. For superior results look at above ground pump/filter packages built by Hayward or Pentair. Intex products are just built to margin and are not designed for long term usage.
