Question about DISH Network ViP622 DVR DTV Receiver / 180-Hours Video Recorder

Vip622 rebooting, fan always running on high / No Video

Same Problem....my VIP622 was up and running 2 years with no problems. One morning it was down with no video and was rebooting every 3-4 minutes. pulled the plug 2 hours after I noticed this and plugged it back in. The system came up, after video and a couple reboots and worked for 6 hours before going black again. I called dish and they said to pull the plug on the 622, shutoff tv, pull video cables and then to pull the card. The reciever sat for 2-3 hours before powering up and now there is no lights on the front panel and the fan just runs on high with no video. Called Dish back and they want to send out a tech...I told them I was on the phone for 90 minutes trying different things and the receiver is dead and just to add me to the protection plan and ship a new receiver...they keep insisting on sending out a tech.....I told them it wouldn't work as I was heading out of town for 7-20 days.....I told them that to ship it so I could replace it when I got back into town...Dish just kept insisting they need a site visit. Are these guy dumb or just useless ?

    Thanks for your comments. I did call Dish back....and they agreed to ship out a new receiver to me, after I spoke to 3 different representatives within 2 Hrs. I unplugged the 622 and it sat for a 3-4 days and I had a friend pop over and asked if he could see what is was doing. I plugged in the power and nothing else and I could hear the Hard drive spin up after a couple minutes which it didn't do before. I powered it down and up and again it booted again so powered down and I hooked it up to the TV and it booted up with video, which i didn't before. The HD would not even spin up. It took the P621 update that night and has worked ever since July 4. If this happens to anyone try unplugging the PVR for a few days. I have a suspicion the software update was interrupted as it was being pushed that week.

    I actually sent back the replacement receiver as the original came back up and was functioning without any problems....plus then i would loose all the programs on the HD.

    It has been working flawless for 2 months now!

    Do you work for Dish ?

    Do you have any recomendations to which external HD to go with? I work in IT and know there are always some drives that are less reliable then others ?

    I had the same problem with the receiver the other day. The screen went black and seemed to be rebooting in a loop. I unplugged the receiver for an hour and plugged it back in and it came up, I checked the software and it was at the L6.22 level, the receiver was up for a bit again and then went back into the looping while the 622 was in the standby (off) mode. I unplugged it for about for hours and it booted up fine again. I noticed that Dish has started pushing the L6.23 as of 12/15/09 and my 622 seems to have problems as it did back in June going from the L6.19 to the L6.21 when they posted the update on 06/06/09. The update from L6.21 to L6.22 went with no problems.



    Is there problems with the L6.23 update ?



    Also, can I install a 1TB external drive to my 622 ? You mention above to use a 45 to 700GB.

Hi! I am sorry to hear about the frustration that you experience from the tech support of dish network. If you already talk to this guys for 90 minutes do different troubleshooting steps, Did they ask you if your receiver is plug in to a power strip or surge protector? If your receiver is plug in to a surge protector or power strip, please unplug it from the surge protector or power strip for 1minute. then plug in directly to the power outlet. Sometime the power strip or surge protector dont give the 100% current needed by the dvr. just to isolate the problem, connect the dvr to the power outlet and plug in after 1 minute. if the receiver dont boot up it just turn on the green light and turn off by itself. there is a problem from the power supply of the dvr. just in case it turn on and it shows attention 015, press the menu button on the remote and it will show the main menu, press 6,1,1 on the remote and it will go to point dish,once its on point dish, selct check switch, then on the next page selct test, it will run the test up to 1 of 3 or 4 it depends on the condition of the sat dish, once its done, it will show the installation summary screen, it should show the 3 sat or 4 depends on how many you have, ex, 119, 110, 129, or 77, 72, 61.5, once all sat are all ok, selct done, then select done on the point dish and cancel all the way out of the menu and you will see attention 015, it should finish the progress and download the programming guide, and it should show a picture on the tv screen, just in case the problem still exist, call 1-800-333-3474 and ask for a supervisor and explain to the supervisor that you talk to the tech for 90 minutes and also tellthe sup that you did the troubleshooting step that i mention to you but the problem still exist.. the problem is with the dvr, pls feel free to get in touch if you have any query..

    Hi larrytheliza! I just read your comment. How are you? I hope your in good shape and everything works fine. by the way, for future precautions with regard to your recorded event, the 622 dvr receiver is also capable of hooking up external hard drive so that you can transfer the recorded event from the dvr to external hd, so that just in case the dvr quit working again, at least your recorded event is save on the external hard.     45 to 750 gb with its own power supply
    and there is a $39 one time external hard drive activation fee..

Dish tech here, I personally do not install 622's. You're much better off with a 722k.

Annoying total green screen on dish network.

Normally when the receiver is stuck in a certain mode, it will reboot. From your post, it sounds like this is what is happening. Have your tried to unplug the receiver from the electrical outlet for 10 seconds? This will generally take care of minor problems that may be developing. If it continues to occur, we may need to replace the receiver. I hope this helps.

Connect a Dish VIP622 to a DVD/VCR


Hi piautewith the VIP622 receiver connecting to your DVD/VCR player you will need theinput/output jacks. To setup recordings to your VCR/DVD player, you will want torun from receiver output to VCR/DVD input and from VCR/DVD output to TV input. Thefan on the VIP622 receiver is just like the fan in a computer tower. Even ifthe receiver is off the fan will still run to keep unit the right temperature foryour DVR receiver. 622 rebooting problem


This issue would have to be resolved in home, it is linked to a power issue and your voltage will need to be checked at the outlet your recvr is plugged into, HD DVR's need alot of constant power to operate poperly. the nes time you call about this issue the standard procedure is to send a tech to check voltage.

NO VIDEO FIRST THING IN MORN GREEN LIGHT ON/OFF


hi zackmann37! I will be glad to assist you on this issue. 1st lets try to isolate the problem, unplug the power of you dvr receiver from the power strip or surge protector and leave it unplug for 1min. after 1min, plug in directly to the power outlet not on the power strip or surge protector. Why? some of the power strip does not give the 100% current needed by the dvr system thats why its malfunctioning, it gives the 100% power voltage but not the 100% current. then let the dvr reboot by itself once its rebooting you will see attention 015 then it will go on a progress until it download the programming guide and you got you tv shows, observe it until the next morning, leave the dvr plug in directly to the wall, now before you sleep, turn off the receiver by pressing the power buttonon the remote to turn off the green light. once you wake up in the morning, press the power button and the green light and the amber light will turn on and it will show your program, but if the problem still exist, you need to call on 1-800-333-3474 talk to dish tech support and tell them that you need a replacement receiver, you have a dvr lost of function. pls feel free to get in touch if you have any query

Same problems. Fan is whirling. Light flashes. No Video Signal.


The 622's are good receivers it is just that on occasion we get a shipment that has been mishandled. This causes the issues however a 722k is a good choice. Thanks for using Fixya.

Unplug the unit from the mains for at least an hour, then plug it back in again and try to boot it up.

I've been having a temporary, but more and more frequent problem, where the vip622 does not respond to the remote. The remote still controls all other components, just not the dish box. This problem...


Get a new remote sent to you and have them come out to program the remote so they can check the rest of the system out as well in case it continues with the new remote.

VIP622 Freezes 10-12 Times Per Day

There is a simple way to determine if the receiver needs to be replaced just do the following:
1 Go to the menu on the 622 and press 6-1-3. This will put you on the system info screen.
2 Select details by maneuvering the yellow highlight and press select. This will bring you to the STB Health Lite. This screen will give you signal readings for all satellites orbitals you have such as 119,110,129, 148 ,61.5, etc. on the 14,15,16, and 21 transponders. These value differ depending on which area of the country you are in but as a rule of thumb generally should be above 70 for 110 and 119, and above 60 on the 129. It will also have a set of values if you arrow down all the way from 0 to 9. If value 0 is above 2 the hard drive is malfuctioning and receiver needs to be replaced. Value 1 above 10 indicates a hardware failure. Value 2 above 0 the same thing -hardware failure. Value 4
(which will be the one you will probably see above tolerance) should be 200 or lower. Value 7 should be 4 or it indicates the hard drive is malfunctioning. All other values currently are for engineering use only.
3 If any value is above the thresholds call customer no service and get a replacement shipped to you or service call set up.
