Question about Sony Televison & Video

1 Answer

My 5-year old Sony KDF55-60WF655 projection TV has a large black blob in the corner of the screen. This is most likely from the residue from a liquid (cleaner or child's drink) that has climbed up by capillary action between the projection and diffusion screens. Can anyone recommend how to clean this or replace the entire screen easily. Alternatively, can anyone recommend a good repair technician in the Boston area?

Above is a picture of the blob. The size, color, and translucency of the area has changed as it has dried. Is there a cost effective way to clean it, or replace the screen?

It sounds like she may have cracked the LCD display.
LCD (liquid crystal display) are very delicate nad any impact, even by a three year old could damage the screen beyond repair. Could you please submit a photo of the screen when on?

The TV has a Black cloud on the right half of the

My parents have the same issue with their Sony KDL-46V4100 TV and were told by the tech that the LCD screen was physically broken and would have to be replaced. The replacement of the screen would cost more than a brand new TV and the TV is not longer under warranty. After the TV is on for awhile the Black cloud goes away but it always comes back when they turn the TV off/on. It stays for 20 - 30 minutes sometimes. The Tech took both top corners of the TV and pushed one back and pulled one forward to show them he could recreate the problem after the black blob cleared up. By twisting the corners he made the blob reapper which he claimed was becuase of the damaged screen. I have no idea how the screen was damaged? I helped them take it out fo the box and set it up. We never dropped it bumped it once? It's never falled off the stand so go figure? It would be nice to find more people with this issue and get a recall going. Something that expensive should last longer than to two years.

3LCD Projection TV 2.5 years old displaying blue hue/blobs

I would first try a new lamp. If the reflector portion of the lamp has any defects, it could show up this way as the light would not be uniform. The next possibility is a defective light engine. The engine portion if not field repairable and would need to be replaced. Try the lamp first and let us know what happens.

Sony Vaio laptop

The LCD panel had been broken and needs to be replaced. This is not a cheap part. Check with a local computer repair center to get the replacement screen cost. This should be a damage claim against the movers.
