You have something pulling to many amps, usually is the motor but also could be the heating element shorted out

If you are only getting 120v to the dryer, you still have a breaker tripped. It should be right next to the single pole 30. It takes 2 breakers to get the 240v you need to run the dryer. Try resetting another breaker expecially the ones marked 30amp. You do need to get a double pole breaker installed even for safety reasons.

Keeps knocking the electric off in the whole house

I would guess it is a short> possible causes:
1) outlet: turn off breaker to outlet pull cover off and look for burnt or loose wires
2) dryer cord: take back metal plate off of dryer look for burnt or loose wires
3) heating element
4) check all internal wiring for burnt or loose connections

The breaker for the dryer should be a 30 amp breaker, and should only trip that breaker. If it is tripping the main on the panel then something else is wrong. You will need to pull off the panel the the breaker box and pull out the dryer breaker and look to see if it burnt, make sure the wires are tight on the breaker, you may want to try a new breaker also. Hope this helps Tim

Kenmore elite dryer runs for about 3 min. then trips the breakers

The circuit breaker may be tripping because of a fault with the dryer or it may be a fault with the circuit breaker being weak.

From the description you give the circuit breakers trip frequently.

I'd suggest you first try selecting the no heat air fluff cycle and run it to see if the breaker trips. If the circuit breaker doesn't trip in air fluff then there is likely a short in the heating element.

With a clamp-on amp meter you can read the amp draw of the dryer when it is heating. With the motor and element both working you would see approximately 25-26 amperes being drawn. The breaker is rated at 30 amps. If the breaker trips and only 26 amps are being drawn then the breaker is the problem.

Try the air fluff cycle first and see if the breaker will trip. Then with additional details I may be able to help you further.

Tripping house fuse

It would help to know what size breaker is feeding this dryer. If it is a two pole 30 amp, then I would first replace the breaker and see if the problem continues. I would check the name plate ratings of the dryer, should be rated at 229 volts and 30 amps. If it continues to trip the breaker, then I would be looking at the heaters in the dryer as the source of the fault,

LG Dryer DLE2516W contiuously trips breaker but only on heat setting greater than low

Your circuit breaker may be bad. Run dryer and if breaker gets hot after 10min or so the breaker is bad.
Higher heat settings draw more amperage thus tripping the bad or undersized breaker. 30 amp 2 pole breaker required.
Ck. the power cord for signs of arching. Replace power cord or outlet if damaged.

If you don't have an AMP clamp to measure the amount of AC current draw. Then I would replace the breaker with a new 30amp. If the electrical panel is a sylvania or Zinco then that is most likely the problem! Those panels use the same breaker type and are terrible at having breakers going bad and tripping premature. If it is one of those type of breakers better dig deep in your wallet as those breakers run $1.25 to $1.50 per amp !

My electric trips out when I switch the tumble dryer on

Sounds like the plug cord is wired wrong on the dryer, or the breaker is too small or going out. Or the heat strip could need to be replaced. You should have a 30 amp breaker for the dryer. Check the heat strip then your breaker.

My new maytag centennial electric keeps tripping

Hi Matt
I'm not sure that swapping out the breakers to higher rated ones will give you a solution so I'll throw in 2 cents to see if my advice holds true. Let's start by asking this. Is the appliance "rated" at 220 volts at 30 amps per leg. I assume this from your post as to what it has been rated. Next - How long is the "run" of wire from the junction box to the outlet where the appliance plugs in? This usually does not matter in most households but if the run is of significant length it may need a larger gage wire to support the current draw of the appliance. Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, are the lugs and wire connectors tight at the outlet, the plug, and the breaker box. A loose connection will ramp up the current fast. This is assuming the first two items were met. Tell me if any of this helps and we'll work it out from there.
Thanks.
Len

The heater and timer do not work

The timer won't advance unless te clothes are drying with heat.(No heat, no movement).
Check your fuse or breaker box to see if you have a tripped 30 amp breaker,(Flip breaker OFF then back ON), or blown 30 amp fuse.(Replace both 30 amp fuses to eliminate the possibility of being wrong).
If these check ok,(be certain), then you have a breakdown on the heat side of the 240 volt circuit, at which point, I would recommend calling a technician.

Let me know if I can be of any more assistance.
