Question about Ace Hardware InSinkErator Badger 5, 1/2 HP Garbage Disposal

1 Answer

I have an insinkerator Badger 5 that is making a loud noise. I can see that there is a piece of white plastic wedged in there - probably a toothpick put in by mistake - I detached from sink and the object won't budge. How can I get it out? Don't have instructions anymore so not sure how it comes apart. Thanksk Helene

Try taking a long screw drive and turn the unit backwards, if you can get it to move a little then try to unwedge the peice with long needle nose plyers, should work .

Badger insinkerator, 1/3 HP does not start. Please help...i try the red button and didn't work...the blades aren't rotating....

Use wood broomstick handle down into disposal.
Wedge broomstick against side of sink opening and rotate blades free.
Or use allen wrench on bottom of disposal to free cutter blade.

If blades rotate freely and disposal has power, and reset is not tripped or will not reset, then disposal is bad.

Garbage disposle makes a humming noise when turned on. InSinkErator Badger 5, 1/2 HP Garbage Disposal

Did you also hear any clattering sounds when it started? If so, it is rotating. If not then this hum is the motor in the lock rotor stage. Did you place garbage in it yet? Always run cool water in it when starting it.

Attaching dishwasher drain hose.

Are you talking about the "barbed attachment" on the disposal? If so, simply use a screwdriver and hammer to knock it out. Make sure you reach into the disposal (through the sink) to get this piece of plastic out after. Good luck

My insinkerator stopped working

Yes there is..... Your unit should have a wrench with it to rotate the inner blades by hand. It usually look like an allen wrench. You can see the socket that the wrench fits into by looking up into the bottom of the disposer, from under the sink. Insert the wrench and use it to work the blades forward and backwards. Remove the wrench, and try it electrically. It may take a few trys, but this will get it running again. Once it starts, pour a large container of water into the disposer with it running to help flush the sticking materials out. You can also flush ice and water through it after the water to further sweep it out.
Best regards, --W/D--
