It is very posible and a good thing to have. It is there to protect the motor windings from over heating and causing the motor to fail.

Shuts off after running for short period of tim

Humidity is low enough that control thinks it no longer needs to run, or control (humidistat) is bad, or hopefully not the compressor motor is not happy and shuts down due to overheat. Double-check your filter and possibly the coil dirt buildup to be sure this is not the cause of compressor motor overheat.

I have a prolectrix wall mounted bowed fireplace model BG-D4. The fan quit working and now it overheats and shuts down. Is there a fuse or a reset button?

I don't know this specific product but if it is designed to run with the fan, it will overheat if the fan stops and shut down. Often, the shut down is by a thermal cutout, so just wait for it to cool dow.. You may have to remove power.

Dryer will heat but seems to overheat and shut off.

If that is the style with the small heater in back up top the blower wheel is probably slipping.

Fryer wont shut off oil overheats

Temp probe is probably bad. But there should be a hi limit switch to shut it off when it overheats. Either it is faulty or it doesn't have one. If it don't it is very dangerous to operate. Could cause a fire.

Toshiba A65-S1062 - This laptop overheats and shuts down.

I bet that you had your laptop on all the time.
Your heat sink is saturated with dust and grit.
you may have to open up the unit and use a can of dust remover to clean the fins on the heat sink out. it is causing your CPU to shut down bucause it is becoming overheated.
Happy Fixing =)
