Question about Intel DG31PR Motherboard

1 Answer

31PR supports parallel port or not?

I had installed a DG31GL MB & a DMP that runs on parallel port by adding a parallel port card. The printer could not be installed properly. I replaced the 31GL MB with 31PR as it supports parallel port. However, even this MB does not seem to supportLPT. Any suggestions?

Dear SIR\r\nRECENTLY RECOVERED MY COMPUTOR unable to connect to printer cn you advise Thank you

Check and make sure you can see the Parallel Port Card you have installed. Go to Start - Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Computer Management and on the left hand side click on Device Manager. Check under Ports (COM & LPT) and see if you have more than your Printer Port (LPT1) installed. If you do not, reinstall the device drive for your SYBA SDPEXNM2P PCIe 2x Parallel Port Card. If you do have more than one listed, check the printer in Control Panel - Printers and Faxes and make sure the printer is enabled. Let me know what you find.

D-Link DMP-90 16 MB MP3 Player Tips

I hope this helps the many people searching for drivers for this digital music player...First one should completely read the DMP-90 USERS GUIDE,SPECIFICLY the Appendage....I wonder if this is a major reason why users cannot get the MP3 player to work ??? If it simply does not connect to ones computer ...... the reason will be that the Parallel Port Mode is incorrectly set...So how do we check this ? First click START &gt; then Right Click My Computer &gt; then Properties .&gt;then Hardware &gt; then Device Manager ......<br /><img src="hairy_kiore_4.gif" /><br />Now Expand + on Ports (Com & LPT)<br /><br /><img src="hairy_kiore_0.gif" /><br />If it does not state ECP Printer Port the DMP-90 will not have a connection with the computer...<br />So lets say it only reads Printer port (with no ECP in front of it) ...Well one has to set this within the bios of ones computer.. So if one does not know how to do this get a friend who does ....<br />Now the drivers ...That work with XP..Heres the link..<br />http://drivers.downloadroute.com/D-Link-DMP-90-Mp3-Manager-041502.html<br />and the file name....<br />Dlinkdmp90_app_041502.exe<br /><img src="hairy_kiore_2.gif" /><br /><br />Install in Folder.....It will have 3 files...<br /><img src="hairy_kiore_3.gif" /><br />Open Readme text file and read it....It basicly says ...Execute the port95nt.exe program first. It will automatically upgrade your Win2000/NT/XP with the new patches. then reboot your computer..then one can move the cakernt.exe file into another directory or folder ....then Double click the cakernt.exe and it will activate the program for downloading the MP3 files into the player.....I actually never moved the cakernt.exe..I just double clicked it from its install folder and dragged the MP3's into it.......<br /><br /><br /><br />

Hi, I need standard spec info of VGA built on Asus P5GC-MX 1333 whether 64 Mb or 128 Mb. Many thanks & regards, Richard

you can use up to a maximum of 224 mb of your computer's RAM for the onboard video chip to use. You can install a video card with any amount of memory (which would give you a lot better video performance).

I bought a new HP computer and it didnt have a serial port included in it. I purchased a secondary PCI Express card that gave me two serial ports. They are programmed in as com port 1 &2. They show...

Serial connection eh? Any reason you went with serial instead of parallel? The cards likely sell for about the same price or you could just buy a USB to parallel cable that would allow you to hook up a USB port of your computer to the parallel port on the printer.

The reason that it looks like the job disappears is likely due to the fact that the serial bus is not supporting bidirectional printing so the printer cannot acknowledge that it has received the job.

What does disabling bidirectional support mean

The software package just doesn't work well with older peripherals that use legacy parallel or serial com ports. Too many sloppy layers.

THE BEST WAY to add an LPT printer port to your laptop is to use a PCMCIA to Parallel adapter card.
The PC Card slot provides access to the laptop's data bus, and the PC Card adapter easily sets up as a native LPT port within almost any OS.

There is no delay, or connection problems as I've seen in so many complaints about USB to Parallel or Legacy Serial adapters. Printing is Instant.

PCMCIA is a mature standard, and works seamlessly with XP and Vista, and almost any other OS.

PARALLEL is the old standard fast data protocol. IEEE 1284 ECP mode up to 1.5 Mbps.
The BJC-80 and the BJC-85 have the same print speed. The BJC-85 just added USB.

INFRARED is ver 1.0 on the BJC-80, and printing is a bit slower at 115.2 kbps. Even the BJC-85 with its higher IRDA transfer rating and a laptop's built-in IR port, the XP print spooler has problems with it, and can hang if printing more than one page, and especially with more than one document. It will not scan.

I use IR for printing single pages only with either the BJC-80 or BJC-85.
USB to IRDA adapters work fine, and are less expensive $5-6 than
PCMCIA to Parallel adapters, $20-25.

I have tested and used several PCMCIA adapters from different manufacturers, and they all work perfectly as a hot-pluggable, instant LPT and/or Legacy Serial port for my laptops.
TIPS:
After installing the PC Card driver, check Device Manager for the LPT port number.
Install the printer manually from the list of printers, and select the proper LPT port.
Most laptops have two PCMCIA slots. If you change slots, the adapter card driver may reinstall, and assign the next available LPT port, LPT2.

To scan with the BJC-80, you must have an LPT port.
The PC Card adapter also allows the use of the IS-12 scanner cartridge within XP or Vista.
Within Vista, set the Canon ISScan software to run in Windows 98 compatibility mode, to allow use of the TWAIN driver.
