What weight of hydraulic fluid is used in a dixon lawn mower


The motor takes 30 SAE. the drives take 20/50 SAE motor oil. I contacted the manufacturer of the hydro gear drives to find out what was used when I rebuilt one. There is only one manufacturer of all hydro gear drives. Their recommend Mobile 20/50 SAE.

make sure you have hydro fluid in it and that you hydro is not locked out check release wires at back to make sure they didn't get moved and also make sure your belt didn't come off hydro pump

2001 chevy tahoe vacum hoeses for power steering


Hello! There are power steering fluid in/out hoses but no vacuum lines...It sounds as if the pump needs to be bled of air or the belt is loose...Belt should move about 1/2 to 3/4"...Bleeding is as follows...

    ImportantPower steering fluid level must be maintained throughout bleed procedure.
  1. Fill pump reservoir with fluid to minimum system level, FULL COLD level, or middle of hash mark on cap stick fluid level indicator.
  2. ImportantWith hydro-boost only, the oil level will appear falsely high if the hydro-boost accumulator is not fully charged. Do not apply the brake pedal with the engine OFF. This will discharge the hydro-boost accumulator.
  3. If equipped with hydro-boost, fully charge the hydro-boost accumulator using the following procedure:
  4. 2.1. Start the engine.2.2. Firmly apply the brake pedal 10-15 times.2.3. Turn the engine OFF.
  5. Raise the vehicle until the front wheels are off the ground. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  6. Key on engine OFF, turn the steering wheel from stop to stop 12 times.
  7. Vehicles equipped with hydro-boost systems or longer length power steering hoses may require turns up to 15 to 20 stop to stops.
  8. Verify power steering fluid level per operating specification. Refer to Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid .
  9. Start the engine. Rotate steering wheel from left to right. Check for sign of cavitation or fluid aeration (pump noise/whining).
  10. Verify the fluid level. Repeat the bleed procedure if necessary.

Where do you check hydraulic fluids on a 460 international tractor


I own one. Most have a plug in the top of the trans/hydro case to the left and rear of the gear shift leaver. It takes a 3/4" drive to open it. I use an extention and brake bar or ratchet. The fluid should just all most reach the opening. the books state it should hold 8 to 10 gal. I have found my 460 Utility holds almost 20 gals.

hi there

is your machine a hydro unit ?

if so check that you have not left it in bypass mode ? there should be a rod or lever you push back in to disengage bypass

then check that the square 3/16 keys are in the wheel hubs if they use keys

if not check that the vee belt has tension on it and belt has not jumped off and the input pulley is turning on the top of the hydro box or gear box


if all is good could have a hydro or gear box fault

If it is going ok, i would leave it alone, you can drain and refill the hydro unit if you wish, there are two main manufacturers of the units, Hydro Gear, and Tuff Torque, the hydro gear gearbox takes a 20-50 oil, and the Tuff torque takes a 10-40 oil, neither takes a hydraulic oil, if you do decide to drain it, you will need to purge the unit of air after re filling, this will mean running the engine with the unit in by pass, make 5 slow forward engagments and 5 rear engagements, then take the unit out of by pass and do the same again, each time come back to neutral, do this as many times as it takes for any noises to dissappear and the machine moves smoothly, the biggest killer of the unit is over loading ( brakes binding, towing, cooling fan blocked with grass ).

Yes, your brakes are boosted by the power steering pump rather than by vacuum. I don't think it's air in the system. More likely your pump has failed, but you can try bleeding the pump. Here is a procedure from autozone.com:

Observe the following:
Use clean, new power steering fluid type only Hoses touching the frame, body or engine may cause system noise. Verify that the hoses do not touch any other part of the vehicle. Loose connections may not leak, but could allow air into the steering system. Verify that all hose connections are tight.


NOTE Power steering fluid level must be maintained throughout bleed procedure.

check your kick down cable attached to the carb, it may be out of adjustment and forcing the trans to stay in "passing gear"

Hydraulics get were they won't lift anything like round hay bales etc.


can be a lot of different problems-check fluid level if low fill to proper level --leak in hydro line-check all lines for leak--air in system -bleed system -wrong hydro fluid in system-check for correct fluid---seal at pump leaking-check around pump--controls leaking not holding allowing back pressure--test controls for internal leaks repair or replace if necessary--hydro pump internal malfunction/valves/piston/gears-pressure test repair or replace if necessary
