Why do wings tend to bend upward on a plane?

The entire weight of the aircraft is being supported by the wings. Longer wings are designed to bend upwards to support that weight. Due to the curvature of the wings (more curved on top and flatter on bottom) there is low pressure on the top of the wings and higher pressure under the wings. So the wings are actually pulled up into the air by the low pressure over the top of them.

Is there any advantage to passenger jets carrying fuel in sealed tanks in their wings?

As the wings are lifted by differences in air pressure and gravity acts on the fuselage, the extra fuel load in the wings won't really affect the curvature. Rather, this is for the large storage capacity (volume) of the wings, and the safer option that your fuel tanks are outboard, rather than crew / passengers sitting directly on top of a "belly" tank. In event of a fuel-fire or crash, there is still a chance of fire being extinguished, or fuel-laden wings breaking away in a major crash. The spread-out mass of the wings also adds to stability by increasing the inertia.

When it comes to bird cages, why is size so important?

Cage size is a very crucial element in regards to proper bird care. The tail of your bird should never touch the back or bottom of the cage when sitting on their perch. A very general rule to follow is that the width of the cage should be at least 1-1/2 times as wide as your bird's wingspan. Keep in mind that it is not just your bird(s) inhabiting the cage but you will need a perch and most likely some toys. My personal recommendation is to buy the largest cage you can afford.

Cutting cost on wing production, resulting in a nasty crash!

i normaly only repair large aircraft, but it seems your old good wing was fatigued from regular use and broke, and the new ones are of poor asian quality, thats why they are snaping. i assume the wings are folding up, so on the bottom attach a very thin wire (stainless lockwire if you can get) to the ends of the wing to fuse, at least 30 deg. from wing (like bottom of wing to bottom of fuse)
