The hinge you need is #LP2403001. You might be able to order direct from Brother, but there are many sources on line. around $15.00

Hi, the left hinge is spring loaded to keep the lid open. This applies a lot of pressure on the pivot point of the hinge (steel pin/plastic hinge) that elongates the plastic holes and raises the lid from the scanner. As the paper leaves the scan window, a ramp next to the scan window sends the paper up to the tray, just past that ramp under the lid is a lip that guides the paper to the tray. With the hinge stretched, the lip is too high and catches the end of the paper at the rear only, and jams the paper. If you press on the cover (with the new hinge) and it does not catch then you have installed a bad hinge. Also ensure that the top part of the hinge is on the guide pins under the cover.

Hey there buddy. The issue that you have is a clear hardware issue. Here are my recommendations. Is your printer still in warranty? If it is in warranty then just call hp and have them replace your unit. If it is not you can try going to best buys or walmart or any other hp partners and retailers and have them service the printer. However most likely they are just going to send the printer to hp and have it fixed there and I believe the charge will be higher. I had been an hp technical support and with hardware issue with your printer we do not recommend service or repairs, what we suggest is hardware replacement. And with your printer hp is no longer manufacturing that kind of model so i doubt if you can find any available parts for that. Here is my suggestion, if your printer is out of warranty already what you can do is call hp and ask for an upgrade. An upgrade is cheaper compared to getting a brand new printer of the same model with no difference in functionality and features. They call it upgrade because your printer is already obsolete and they are going to replace it with latest printers they have of the same family or series with your old printer. The good thing also with an upgrade printer, it will be in warranty and you will have a technical phone support and hardware support for one year. And if you decide to get another extended warranty from the same date of getting an upgrade you will get up to 70% percent on extended plans. So you decide which one best for you...

SOURCE: the lid won't close
We don't sell or manufacture the hinge. If your printer is still under warranty, please call our technical support team to have the printer replaced. If not, it would be best to have the hinge repaired to any local computer shops near your area.
