Mercedes a class steering fluid

Mercedes has a Special Power Steering Fluid but a General Power Steering fluid worked without an issue with MY Mercedes... The NEW CARS are more fickle, Older ones will take everything including Transmission fluid but It does damage to the Seals..

Use General Power Steering Fluid and you will be fine

Type of oil in mercedes sl power steering

In the back of your owners manual they list approved fluids or approved fluid types. Mercedes has more up to date lists on the websites. Yours should be a Dexron II type but verify with your manual or dealer (call parts department and ask, they will tell you but service manager won't have a clue). You have to double check as the 90's were transitional where they went from the older style fluids to full synthetics in everything.

What transmission fluid can I use in my 1993 Mercedes Benz 190E

AF3 onepx.gif DEXRON®-III Automatic Transmission Fluid
BMW: Power steering use AF3; Models with combined power steering,
hydraulic brake booster, self-leveling suspension system use SLF
Mercedes-Benz: Use only manufacturer approved fluid

Look on the back of the bottle of fluid you are looking to buy, if it does not say is is approved by MB, don't use it.
