Hi

You need to purchase the correct diameter file for the size of chain you have fitted on your saw. Suggest also that you buy a Stilh file holder (this is a frame which holds the file, and acts as a guide to give you correct filing angle and depth, just a few dollars).

Do not file too much off each time, I give each tooth two files strokes only. You have to keep the saw sharp all the time, I sharpen every two tank fills of fuel.

Suggest you Google the subject, Oregon chain is a good make and will have details of how to sharpen

Good luck

Sharpening Chainsaw

Whether you learn to do it by hand or buy a saw sharpening attachment keeping a sharp chain is #1 in my book for keeping your saw running properly. The more pressure you have to exert to cut makes the saw run hotter, the bar wears out faster, the chain wears out faster and the sprocket wears out fast plus it's just plain harder on you to run the saw. In my timber cutting days I would file my chain every time I filled the saw with gas. Here is a helpful video for sharpening a saw. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lkSYov5jcO0

How to sharpen chain on poulan pro 20 inch chainsaw

It can be done with a file of the right size for the chain. I take my chain off the saw and to a chain saw shop for a professional job.

Saw cut is not straight. It curves until the chain freezes. Model 330 type #1 Chain saw.

This problem is caused by sharpening the chain on one side more than the other or can be caused by having the angle wrong when sharpening one side which causes one side to cut better than the other. The only solution is to get it sharpened professionally. All chainsaw users have to do this every few times we sharpen them.

I need to know the right angle to sharpen my chainsaw

If your saw still has the original bar and chain, it was supplied with a .325" pitch chain and you'll need a 3/8" round file with a sharpening guide to properly sharpen it.

Here's a link to the Husqvarna site to the Rancher 455 models so you can select the correct manual to download, that matches your particular saw, based on the year of manufacture, etc.

There is some excellent information about maintaining your saw, along with a really good guide with step-by-step instructions for proper sharpening.

http://www.husqvarna.com/us/homeowner/support/download-manuals/?query=455&types=O

If you're having trouble figuring out the right manual for your saw, use the online Customer Support page and they'll reply.

Hope you find this Very Helpful - Best regards!
