Question about Dewalt Garden

Have a PD2800 that has started to leak oil. lowered the oil level slightly but it started to again leak oil after just a minute or two of running from a cold start. Oil seems to be coming either from around the oil drain plug or from underneath the motor mounting plate. any ideas? Richard

My generator has a slight oil leak but starts right up but stops after 2 mins. It will restart but will not stay on. Live in Florida and need for pending hurricane

"Slight oil leak" where? if the oil level gets too low, or if the leak is depriving some mechanism of its lubrication, the motor will do exactly that. Possibly try turning the main shaft after it has stopped running, and see if it no longer turns freely. Does it get really hot? If so, don't run it until you find what is making it so hot. In one of my engines, the oil got water in it, turned thick and looked like a weird frappe, and the oil was no longer good. Check for leaks and fix them.

It could also be from the ignition failing, if it is 4-cycle. Maybe the glow plug, if it is 2-cycle.

Miller Legend welder. Onan engine starts and runs a few minutes then dies. Why won't it restart for 5 minutes?

Some engines have a low oil cutoff switch. If the oil level drops to a certain point it kills the engine. Your oil level may be close enough that after starting and running for a little bit the level drops enough to kill the motor. After sitting for awhile the level rises enough to allow the engine to run again check the level and add oil if necessary.
Hope this helps.

This is for the guy who said that it was better to have your oil lower then to over fill that is dead wrong your car should be dead even on your full mark and i'll tell you why if you do as he stated

The oil level for an engine is recommended to be between two levels as depicted on the dip stick. Over the mark is not recommend as it aerates the oil which increases the temperature of the oil as well as lowers the oil pressure from that aeration. Below the low mark on the dipstick reduces that amount left in the pan for cooling from the air flow and is subject to oil surge from cornering, acceleration and inclines. This causes the pump to run out of oil with resultant low pressure to the working parts
However when checking the oil level, the engine should be cool as the oil when hot increases in volume and may put the level slightly over the full mark or over the low oil mark. oil levels should be dipped on a flat surface as the oil position in the sump will affect the level on the dip stick. Lastly oil consumption during operation is part of a properly operating engine and some manufacturers allow a consumption of 1pint for every 5000 miles . Most engines will leak more than this and some engines appear not to consume any oil between services. As with any proper vehicle inspection oil level, water level tyre pressures should (depending on the age of the vehicle) be carried out at least every 7 days or less before starting up.
people who couldn't be bothered, don't care or don't take the time to know how ,generally pay a heft price in dollars. .

How much oil do i put into a 2007 pug 207 1.4

The quoted capacity is just under 4 litres including a filter change.

I put 3.5 litres in, start the engine check the oil light goes out after a few seconds, check for leaks from the filter, then switch off engine.

Wait at least 3 minutes, check oil level on dipstick and top up to maximum.

My 2008 chevy avalanche is burning 1 quart of oil every 1000 miles

How many miles on your vehicle ? Do you see any leak spots on the ground from the truck ? Blue exhaust , oil burning , valve guide seals , piston rings , PCV clogged .

Oil Consumption Diagnosis
Checks
Causes
Excessive oil consumption, not due to leaks, is the use of 1 L (1 qt) or more of engine oil within 3 200 kilometers (2,000 miles).
Preliminary
The causes of excessive oil consumption may include the following conditions:
• External oil leaks
Refer to Oil Leak Diagnosis .
• Incorrect oil level or improper reading of the oil level indicator
With the vehicle on a level surface, run the engine for a few minutes, allow adequate drain down time, 2-3 minutes, and measure for the correct engine oil level.
• Improper oil viscosity
Refer to the vehicle owners manual and use the recommended SAE grade and viscosity for the prevailing temperatures.
• Continuous high speed driving and/or severe usage
• Crankcase ventilation system restrictions or malfunctioning components
Refer to Crankcase Ventilation System Inspection/Diagnosis .
• Worn valve guides and/or valve stems
• Worn or improperly installed valve stem oil seals
Refer to Spark Plug Inspection .
• Piston rings broken, worn, or not seated properly
Allow adequate time for the rings to seat.
Replace worn piston rings, as necessary.
Refer to Cylinder Leakage Test .
• Piston and rings improperly installed or not fitted to the cylinder bore
Refer to Lower Engine Noise, Regardless of Engine Speed

common problem for dodge 4 cylinders...
never lower the oil level unless its real high on the dipstick..
you have the replace the spark plug guide seal.... it seals it from oil in the valve cover going into the spark plug guide and killing the spark... yes oil goes past the threads on the plug....

just did the valve cover on my 94 jaguar... has the same setup valve cover design

Have you checked the oil level on your dipstick? You say you had a slight oil leak... but you DID maintain the oil level, right? In other words, you realized oil was coming out so you replaced the oil that had leaked out every now and again? You may have a shot crankshaft bearing, could be a chunked flywheel, or even a defective starter. My guess? New starter engaged but got stuck. The grinding you heard was the flywheel tearing the teeth off of the starter as you drove. You got it home, tried to start it, but there were no teeth left on the starter. Pull the starter... I'll bet it looks like a trainwreck. I doubt you siezed you engine though, especially if it was running when you shut it off.

TOP UP AUTOMATIC GEAR BOX OIL

Looks like you have a leaks problem in your gear box. You'll need a clean hand pump to top up your oil. Make sure your pump is clean. In your gear box, there should be 2 ports ( fill and drain). Filling port located upper position while drain is lower.
Inject your oil and check your deep stick after run your engine for minutes. Repeat those steps till you get normal level of oil. Never exceed max level of your gear oil.

White smoke both pipes when started minute later gone away

White smoke indicates water in the combustion chamber. If the bike is still running okay I would keep an eye on the coolant level, make sure you're not losing any. Best guess is a blown headgasket. You can do a leakdown test or a compression test to check. If your headgasket is blown, two adjacent cylinders should show lower compression since pressure will be leaking from one to the other.

That's the kind of thing that probably won't run for long. Be sure and keep an eye on your oil level too, if you happen to be leaking coolant into the oil you can dilute the oil to the point it no longer lubricates very well.
