Question about Exabyte (270001983) (270001-983) 8mm Tape
It sounds like tyou have put in a damaged tape. This is a common problem and can be fixed without too much expense but is a job for the professionals as it is easy to damage the heads on this type of drive.
This is NOT a driver issue - the flashing lights are a dead give away that this is a hardware issue.

You make sure that you still have the drivers for drive, you can download a driver fro th dell website. If that doesn't work you may want o recheck that Tape drive, it may need to be replace.
