Question about Carrier 38CKC036 Air Conditioner
When i turn the unit on it will cycle for the first event and as normal. Once room temp calls for cooling the condenser fan will come on but the compressor will not. Contactor is energized so i think it may be the pressure on the high side is not equal to the low side? it takes about 30 minutes before the compressor will come back on. Unit is 10 years old, should I just replace it with a newer unit?
Does it have a low pressure switch. It sounds like it is a pressure switch issue

Hello, this is one of 2 items...the motor itself, or the start capacitor. The capacitor is responsible for boosting the motor to get it started. Follow the wires from the motor and they will lead to an oval or round cylinder. Check the cylinder for any bulging or leaking oil. When the motor should be running, reach in with a stick or ruler and try to assist the fan to get going. If the it feels resistant...it is most likely bd motor. If it trys to start and feels smooth it is most likely capacitor.

Sounds like a bad fan switch in your unit. That unit has a fan board in it that is time delay on and off. Turn the fan to the on position and let it run all the time. If it keeps temp and does not shut off it is the fan realy board. The board also controls the compressor. Check that first and then the tsat. Russ

Hello RR Hard start can't hurt BUT dosen't sound like the problem.Do you have a scroll compressor? They don't need a kit.Does it start every time?It could be short cycling on LOW PRESSURE SWITCH.If the unit is (pumping down) during the run time you have a restriction in the system.Make sure the service valves are open ,do you have a filter dryer colgging up or a bad TXV valve also could cause short run times.20-30 PSI the switch cuts out.
