Roper washer model RAX6144EW agitator quit working

first place to start is to check the brushes on the motor. These are carbon rods which settle on the centre of the motor and drive it using an electrical charge from the board. To do this yourself you need to
Turn off power
Place machine on its side but ensure its soapbox down to avoid excess water from the box leaking onto the main control board
I have never worked on a roper but I would imagine the motor should be visible from the base of the machine
On the motor you should see a plastic case on each side with 2 screws in each
These are your brushes
Unscrew and unplug them keeping note of the angle that they sit on the motor (very important)
The brushes top the sits on the motor should be shiny and clean. If it looks dull and is very small (less than 1cm) then they need replacing

Roper Washer is leaking at the base, It appears to be coming from the water pump.

Its not uncommon for these drain pumps to leak fortunately the are very easy to replace. Place a small pan under pump remove both hoses and then pop off the retaining clips and pull the pump forward. line up the new pumps drive slot with the drive shaft coming off the motor reinstall retaining clips and hoses Good Luck

Changing a belt on a washing machine

There is no belt on this machine.
It uses a direct drive coupling between the motor and transmission.
Ope the control console, then remove the cabinet clips to remove the cabinet for access to the motor.
Remove the motor then remove the broken drive coupling(3 parts).
Replace the part and re-assemble the washer.

Where are the belts located in a roper washing machine?

If the model number you posted this question under is correct, this model Roper does not have a drive belt. The washer uses a motor coupling in place of a drive belt and is known as a direct-drive system. The following link shows the drive system of your washer:

The motor coupling is listed as item 13.

Symptoms of a broken motor coupling include failure to agitate or spin accompanied by the sound of the motor running with no tub action. Just to be sure...the following link explains the symptoms of a failed motor coupling and how to diagnose the problem:

If you determine the coupler to be defective, the next link explains how to access the coupler and replace it:

The part number is included with the instructions I provided. Replacement parts (if required) can be purchased at any of the following websites:

All these sites are reputable and offer great service with competitive pricing, so shop and compare. The first three sites I listed also include helpful exploded view parts diagrams to assist you in locating and properly identifying the parts you need. If you do not wish to order parts on line, use the part numbers I provided and go to your nearest appliance parts retailer. The coupler is usually sold as part of their in-store inventory. The average cost of a motor coupling is about $15.

If you have any questions, or if the symptoms I describe do not match the problem you are having, please post back with your complete MODEL NUMBER (if different from the one listed) and let me know. I hope this helps you.

My Roper washer Model# RAX4232JQ0 won't agitate or spin. Is it shaft driven or with a belt. I've tried everything. Even checked the switch for the lid.

The washer uses a direct drive system. What this means is that it uses a motor coupling in place of the drive belt. It sounds like to me that you have a broken motor coupling.

If the washer will fill and drain, but won't agitate or spin, you may have a broken motor coupling. The noise of the motor engaging, lack of agitation and ability to still drain are the usual symptoms. This is a common fail item with this model washer through normal wear and tear. Newer versions of the coupler are more resilient and resist breaking. The following link explains how to replace one:

The motor coupling is located between the drive motor and the transmission and takes the place of a drive belt. They do wear out and can break. The replacement part number is included in the link I provided and is an improved upgraded coupling that is more resilient. It should last longer. If you have questions, or require additional assistance, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

A replacement coupler can be purchased on line at for about $11. Just use the part number in the link and "Search by Part Number" for your search criteria.

If you have questions, or require additional assistance, please let me know. I hope this has been helpful to you. NOTE: Roper is manufactured by Whirpool, so the instructions I provided will apply to your washer.
