Magnavox ZV450MW8 shuts off when trying to rewind.

When I stop playback and try to rewind the tape, the unit shuts off. When I power it back on, it ejects the tape. It plays tapes well and will fast-forward and fast-back while playing with no problem. Happens with all tapes. Protect tabs have not been removed. Unit is about 2 1/2 years old and worked just fine until this started recently. Is this something that can easily be fixed or should I just replace the unit. Thanks for your help.

Unplug the machine and pick it up and shake it, this will tell you if something is in there that shouldn't be or that something broke off.
So many things could be wrong that it is probably not worth fixing if it is not a foreign object inside.

SOURCE: Magnavox ZV427MG9 DVD Recorder VCR Combo plays vcr for about 5 second then stops and shut off, when turned back on it ejects the tape.

This combo has a problem with the vcr unit which take up wheel will stop working and spill the tape. the unit will stop and eject the tape. You have to replace the whole vcr assembly.

Lost manual for DVD Recorder/VCR ZV450MW8 Need instructions to copy DVD Disk to VDD Disk or e-mail manual

To dub a DVD, first press Setup on the remote. Then select Recording (use the Up/Down arrows and then press OK). Navigate to and select Dubbing Mode. Select the direction for the duplication. Then press Setup to leave the Setup menu. Then press DVD to ensure that the unit is ready to play the DVD. (Press VCR if you are dubbing a video tape.) Then Press Play to advance to the section that you wish to duplicate, if needed, and then press Pause. (Press Pause a bit early; the dubbing process will lose about 5 seconds.) Now, press the other Mode button (VCR if recording to tape, DVD if recording to DVD). Next press D.Dubbing on the recorder or the remote. (The button is to the right of the Channel Up/Down buttons on the recorder. It's near the bottom left on the remote.) Press Stop when the section to be duplicated has been played in its entirety.

The Magnavox ZV450MW8 was manufactured by Funai with the Magnavox name. Thus Funai Service has the manual available: http://www.funaiservice.com/manual2012_search2.php . The direct link is http://www.funaiservice.com/manuals/MAGNAVOX/ZV450MW8/ZV450MW8.pdf . The directions for dubbing a DVD to VCR or vice versa start on page 48. Note: copy protected items cannot be duplicated.

I hope this helps.

When I insert a vhs tape into the turned on Magnavox zv450mw8 recorder it then shuts off, what goes

There are many delicate nylon parts in VCR's, they are usually the first to break, that is one possibility. The covers come off these pretty easily but I would pick it up and shake it first to see if something is rattling around inside, if you can hear something moving around in there and if it isn't something a child pushed inside (this often happens) then it is probably toast as it is more expensive to have fixed than it is worth. One other thing that is possible is that there is buildup on the capstan or tape guide rollers which can be sticky and wrap the tape around themselves and the machine will kick the tape out. If you are at all handy you could take the cover off, (FIRST MAKING SURE IT IS UNPLUGGED), plug it back in and insert a tape. As you watch the tape you can see at which stage of the cycle the tape backs out and maybe see the problem. As you can see many problems are possible, best to get another machine.

Magnavox VCR/DVD recorder model ZV450mw8. VCR plays a tape for 6 seconds then shuts the whole unit down.

You will need a technical person to open the unit. This problem can be as simple as a dirty sensor, or bad tape drive parts, or burned out computer chip.

Magnavox zv450mw8 Walmart VCR/DVD recorder. shuts off

on vcr's if the tape is hard to turn the tape will sense this and reject the tape. Try to get a tape that you can feel turn free eaiser. I would rewind it to the middle of the tape so each side is equal and it would make the tape run easier. If it runs ok then the unit is bad and is too sensitve to the pull on the tape. This is all designed in the electronics and there is not much you can do about it then get return it if you can.

I want to copy my VHS tape to a DVD

you should just have to hit the dubbing button on the front of the unit. Make sure you hit stop on both the vhs and the dvd sides. I found that in certain conditions it won't dub.

VCR tape playback not good

Check your "tracking" If the tape played fine in the old machine, then tracking is the answer, provided that the new machine records good.

DSR 11 playback problem

Pete, we are having the same problem with 2 dsr-11s.

The fix for us was the "auto repeat" switch on the back of the unit. It was "on" please turn it off.

The other idea was that the tape tension is very sensitive in the units, try exercising the tape (though exorcise might be good too) by fast-forwarding then rewind the tape start to finish. Tape that were tightly wound at the factory can cause this proble as well. Good Luck. Greg VA
