Hello,

Doesn't any body do their homework anymore? How are they supposed to learn anything?

Draw your graphs by hand or on a graphing calculator.

Think about the intersection points. (What does that mean when two curves intersect?)

Use the equation for the demand to obtain D for a particular x.

You can also determine by how much one function exceeds another for a particular value of the x variable (the graph is rather clear).

I assume you can solve a quadratic equation.

Use these hints to solve the problem.

Here is a graph. I even restricted it to the first quadrant so as not to mislead you into giving meaningless answers.

.

Hope it helps.

SOURCE: my ti 30 calculator always rounds to the nearest

Hi,

To stop the calcultor rounding your answers to the nearest INTEGER, press [2nd][FIX] followed by a number other than 0. For exemple**[2nd][FIX] 3** will display the numbers with 3 decimal digits.

Hope it helps.

Thank you for using FixYa.

- Enter the number (6) corresponding to option [6:FIX]
- In screen that is displyaed, enter the number of decimal digits you want (2, 3, or 4). If you enter 0, all decimal numbers will be displayed as integers (rounded). If you enter 9, you will have long numbers but that is hardly ever necessary.

SOURCE: i need to round 301,421,

Well that would be... 301,500,000 rounded UP, or 301,400,000 rounded down.

BUT the second answer, 301,400,000... is YOUR answer....

The nearest hundred thousand is 400,000... hence the answer, see?

"Round 54,692 nearest thousand"

Since 54,692 is 69.2% of the way toward 55,000, which is MORE than 50% past the middle of that thousand, then 55,000 is the correct answer!

To round a number, we first have to find the column in question. In this question, we need the thousands column, which has a 9 in it. Next, we go to the column immediately to the right. If the number is 4 or less, we don't add one to the thousands column and set all the numbers to the right to zero. If the number is 5 or more, we add one to the thousands column and set all the numbers to the right to zero.

In this case, the number in the column immediately to the right is a 0, so we don't have to add 1 to the thousands column, and rounded to the nearest thousand, we get 39,000.

Good luck,

Paul

The question basically is whether 105,000 becomes 106,000 or not.

It would not round down below 105,000 because it is already higher than that. So we concentrate on the "tail" of the number 105,099 and ask whether 099 (essentially 99 more than 105,000) is more than half way towards 106,000. In order to do that, the "tail" would have to be at least 500 (i.e., half way towards 106,000) as in 105,500. Because 99 is less than 500 the answer is no, the "tail" is not big enough to round up the number 105,099 to 106,000. The answer to rounding 105,099 to the nearest thousand is that because the "tail" is less than half way towards 106,000, the number would instead would round down to 105,000.
