Question about Microsoft Life Cam Vx-700 Webcam
I have looked all through my start menu and can't find my webcam anywhere to be able to open it. I am able to use it with Skype, but not to just use it and take a picture or video. What do I do?????
Sounds like skype is auto detecting the camera. The camera came with a cd. You need to install the software suite that came with the web camera in order to use all of the features outside of skype. If you do not have the driver disk anymore, you can download the software here. http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-us/downloads#webcam

the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

Web Camera’s have to be
setup on the program they are to be used with.
Just installing the camera on your computer does not set it up to
broadcast on messengers or Skype.
Each program has Options that have to be setup in order for the Audio and Video to function properly.
A. Skype Setup:
After downloading and installing Skype set it up as follows:
The camera and audio should function properly. Your friends and Family will now see and talk to you.
B. Yahoo Setup:
After downloading and installing Yahoo Messenger set it up as follows:
C. Windows Live Messenger:
When done both the Audio and Video will function properly so you can chat and see family or friends you are connected to.
Hope this helps. Bud

How much memory do you have installed in your
computer? It may need to be, increased, as this is likely to be the cause
of your computer freezing, rebooting, times out, or shutting down.

SOURCE: Lifecam NX-6000 with Skype
When Skype uses the Lifecam, an icon named "Microsoft LifeCam Dashboard"(it looks like a round blue button) shows up in the System Tray (lower right corner of the desktop). Click the icon to pop up the dashboard.

Tips for a great answer:
Place the product installation CD in the CD drive of your computer. The installation wizard will start automatically. Follow the installation wizard prompts.
Plug the USB connector at the end of the LifeCam VX-1000 connection cable into an available USB port on your computer when prompted.
Place the LifeCam VX-1000 on a flat, level surface, or hang it from your computer's monitor. Continue following the wizard prompts until the installation wizard finishes.
Click the "Start" button, then click "All Programs" on the Start menu.
Click the "Microsoft LifeCam" folder icon in the list of programs on the Start menu, then click the "LifeCam" icon. That opens the LifeCam VX 1000 software and completes the installation process.
