Normally it is just two screws on the bottom holding the HDD plate on. The little picture on the plate is three little cylinders stacked on top of each other. No need for service manual all you need to know is what type of disk it is SATA or IDE. Make sure you have the OS disks to install on the new drive.

I have power to my simple tech external drive, but cannot access it. It seems that I am missing the drivers to allow it to wirk.

Try to go to device manager ( http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000833.htm ), and then assign a drive letter to the hdd. After that, try to access it from Computer, if not able to access it, format it (use quick format) and then use this file recovery program called asoftech data recovery to recover your files. download it from

Would not come on and now it will not play recorded tv or record

Your Hard Drive has crashed and your rec will need to be replaced. you can try to hard reset it by unplugging for a few minutes then plugging back in, see if you gett error msg 311 upon boot up if so then it needs replaced, also if you cannot still access DVr or Dvr functions it will also need replaced due to hard drive crash. 800-333-3474 for tech assistance.

My Beyond Micro External Hard Drive (Model BMMDU2) stopped working. I tried to plug it in to working outlets but it just doesn't power on. Can I access the Owner's Manual online?

Beyond doesn't have much in the way of tech support or manuals, but I can tell you that if it doesn't power up, a new power adapter will cost you as much as simply replacing the whole enclosure.

Take the device to a local PC shop and ask the techs there to move your drive into a new enclosure, they should be able to do that for $20-$40 and you will save a lot of headaches trying to deal with Beyond.

Hope this helps FixYA,

Chris

320 GB simpletech external hardrive won't turn on.

I have the same simpletech hard drive and the same problem. Since I doubted it was under warranty, I took the case off.

I'm not a tech so I don't know the specific names of the parts of the hard drive. Anyway, there are two circuit boards. I jiggled the smaller one (which is the one that is directly hooked to the usb.) I think it must have been loose because the hard drive appeared on my laptop, and I was able to access my files.

I won't recommend others to do what I did, because I'm not a tech. But it worked for me.

Simple Tech external hard drive

if you are running windows, then check the following:

go to control panel -> administrative tools -> computer management -> storage -> disk management.

you probably have a drive (located on the bottom right) that is listed with no drive letter, just assign it a drive letter and see if it comes back, if not, the drive is probably not initializing and you might have to either format it or replace it.
